The Certain Days: Freedom for Political Prisoners Calendar is a joint fundraising and educational project between outside organizers in Montreal, Hamilton, New York and Baltimore, with Xinachtli (s/n Alvaro Luna Hernandez), a political prisoner being held in Texas. Founding members Herman Bell, Robert Seth Hayes (Rest in Power) and David Gilbert were welcomed home from prison in 2018 and 2021.

Not only is the new 2027 Certain Days: Freedom for Political Prisoners Calendar now available to pre-order, but the past 25 years of Certain Days calendars are now digitally archived and publicly available thanks to Freedom Archives, and there will be a virtual calendar launch and discussion on the archives with Herman Bell, David Gilbert, Claude Marks, Laura Whitehorn, and dequi kioni-sadiki via the San Francisco Public Library on November 2 (the anniversary of Assata's escape!).

Seeking submissions to our 2027 Certain Days: Freedom for Political Prisoners Calendar. The theme for 2027 is “Our Duty to Win” and all submissions should seek to address what this phrase means in the context of today’s struggle and the timeliness of Assata’s words to us 40 years after they were written.

💌 Please submit your abolition-related art and articles for consideration for the calendar, which hangs in more than 6,000 homes, workplaces, prison cells, and community spaces around the world. We encourage contributors to submit new work whenever possible.

💌 We especially seek submissions from people in prison or jail, so please forward this call to any prison-based artists and writers.

💌 Who do you want to see in this next year’s calendar? Tag your favorite abolitionist illustrators and writers!
