Another successful day at Harvest House’s Good Neighbors Dental Clinic!

A year ago we began collaborating with the folks over at Harvest House to expand their outreach beyond limited availability for cleanings. The vision was to host free cleaning days a couple times a year for those who truly need it. To take on the task our president Debbie Marie Henkel collaborated with Kailey McDonald to put together something awe-inspiring.

We solidified that vision and pushed beyond it. Just this year alone Harvest House was able to host FIVE Saturdays for folks to come down and get free X-rays, cleanings, and a comprehensive exam from a dentist.

None of this would be possible without the work from our amazing volunteer dental hygienists and dentists. They take time out of their Saturdays to do good work and help a community in need.

This is a reminder for why what we do as dental hygienists matter. We are here to help, to educate, and most importantly to assist people in feeling confident to smile again 🦷

Registration is open for the Nov. 6-8, 2026 NYDHA Empire Conference at the Hyatt Regency Long Island in Hauppauge (early bird rates through Oct. 1). Reserve your hotel room at group rates through Oct. 6. Get up to 11 CE hours in courses Friday afternoon through Saturday on the latest in clinical practice and procedure and the dental hygiene profession; talk with exhibitors, speakers and colleagues; participate in fun social events. Amendments to laws in 2024 require additional training by November 17, 2026. on identifying abused or maltreated children with intellectual or developmental disabilities for dental hygienists and other professionals who are mandated reporters. If you completed an approved provider Mandated Reporter Training between November 1, 2022 and August 31, 2025, you may complete a short (about15-minute) addendum on this additional topic available through most approved providers. The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) has adopted new requirements for dental practices using cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) equipment, effective July 22, 2026.

NYSDA opposed the CBCT accreditation requirement through public comments, meetings with NYSDOH, and continued advocacy efforts. While the requirement is now final, NYSDA is working to support members by meeting with accrediting organizations to explore options that will help simplify the compliance process and make accreditation as accessible and affordable as possible.
