NACS Health & Wellness

NACS Health & Wellness NACS' Health & Wellness Component offers a wide variety of programs to help community members improve their overall health.

The MISSION of NACS' Health & Wellness component is to promote healthy lifestyles and choices for the Native American and all communities in NACS' service areas by providing services, supports, and opportunities for healthy development and empowerment. The component provides three programs rooted in Native American culture. These programs focus on issues the community has identified as being of gr

eat importance. The Stages of Life Empowerment (SOLE) Program is focused on adolescent pregnancy prevention, while the Achieving Our Dreams program addresses the prevention of alcohol/drug abuse. The Year of Celebrating Sober program seeks to create the awareness that alcohol and other drugs are not needed to enjoy life and that the abuse of any substances is not a healthy norm. All three programs offer a wide range of services, activities, and referrals. In addition, NACS' Health & Wellness Component offers frequent youth and community programs throughout the year.

As many may know, SOLE has a period pouch program that gives period products to young people free of charge! Each pouch contains information, pads or tampons, panty liners, a body wipe for cleansing, and some stickers! Our period pouch program is donation based, and we are in need of regular pads! We have lots of tampons, panty liners, and overnight pads - but regular pads (with wings or without) is our most popular item! So if you have any regular (unopened) packages of pads to spare, please message us and we will set up a pick up time! We appreciate any donation, and thank our community for the support!

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia! People in the LGBTQ2S+ community face discrimination at many levels. This includes stigma, violence, and barriers to s*xual and reproductive health. These forms of discrimination worsen health outcomes for the LGBTQ2S+ community, as well as put them at a higher risk for poverty, homelessness, and social isolation.
The SOLE team believes that everyone should have equal access to health care, s*xual and reproductive healthcare & information, housing, employment, and community no matter a person's s*xual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, and financial status. Our education and resources are for EVERYONE!
We are here for you, no matter what 🌈✨🫶

Today is the National Day of Awareness and Action for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. We wear red to honor the memory of the Indigenous people who were murdered, we remember and honor those that are still missing, and stand in solidarity with Native families and communities by recognizing their grief and helping to amplify their calls for justice.

The majority of these murders are committed by non-Native people on Native-owned land. The lack of communication combined with jurisdictional issues between state, local, federal, and tribal law enforcement, make it nearly impossible to begin the investigative process.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! This month helps people recognize the ways mental health impacts their lives, educates people about services and treatment, and highlights ways to advocate for change and better policies.
Mental health impacts every single person! Maybe you are living with a mental health condition, maybe you are supporting someone who does, or maybe you're advocating for change! No matter what, this month holds space for conversations to reduce misconceptions and stigma surrounding mental health and helps promote understanding and compassion. These conversations can reassure those living with a mental health condition that they are not alone!
If you or someone you care about is experiencing a mental health crisis text or call 988 Lifeline. Counselors are available 24/7 for free to offer support and resources!

May is S*x Ed For All Month!

What does that mean?

Well right now in the United States, only 17 states require s*x education to be medically accurate. Only 9 mandate that info is culturally appropriate and free from biases based on race, ethnicity, or s*x. And a mere 7 states require teachers to include LGBTQ+ identities in their curriculum.

When we deny young people their right to receive accurate, inclusive, and empowering s*x ed, we aren’t just prohibiting them from receiving information that keeps them healthy. We’re also doing a disservice to our society.

S*x Ed for All Month is about making sure young people have access to s*x education that is comprehensive, medically accurate, and inclusive - no matter who they are or where they live, everyone deserves to get the education they deserve.
