Nicole Martin-Taylor is our featured team member this month. As Senior Accountant at the Community Foundation, she supports daily, monthly and quarterly accounting activities, maintains accurate financial records and assists with the organization’s financial operations.
When asked what she enjoys most about her work, Nicole said, "I love analyzing the numbers. It's therapeutic for me."
She enjoys working through spreadsheets, researching information and figuring out solutions when something doesn't look right. While accounting follows a monthly cycle, she says every month brings something different.
"The cycle is the same, but it's never the same month. The data is always different and it's always something new that you run into,” noted Nicole.
Nicole has been with the Community Foundation for a little over a year. One experience she found especially meaningful was supporting the annual audit, which helped her see how all of the organization's financial work comes together and gave her a greater understanding of the Foundation's operations.
Outside of work, Nicole's biggest priority is family. Coming from a large family with more than 70 first cousins, she started a tradition nearly 20 years ago called Family Fridays. Every week, family members gather to celebrate birthdays, play games, watch sports and spend time together. "At the end of the day after work, nothing matters but my family," she said.
Nicole also enjoys attending concerts, comedy shows and theater performances, as well as singing and painting nature-inspired artwork, especially trees!
A few fun facts about Nicole: before pursuing accounting, she studied veterinary technology and zoology. She has always loved animals and has cared for everything from rabbits and birds to reptiles. Animals and numbers remain two of her biggest interests.
One quote Nicole lives by is: "If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.” She says this reflects her belief in being honest and straightforward with others.
