We’d like to congratulate Northland Workforce Training Center’s own Carolyn Storms-Stoltman, Chief Program Officer, for receiving the Buffalo Business First C-Level Award!

This award recognizes leaders who are innovators in their organizations, role models for staff and peers, standard-setters in their industries, and make a meaningful impact in our community.

Since joining Northland in 2018, Carolyn has made an incredible impact on our organization and the students we serve. From working directly with employers to align our training programs with workforce needs and create pathways to in-demand careers for students, to developing our Summer Youth Academy, Carolyn’s dedication and leadership have advanced Northland’s mission in countless ways.

On Friday, September 25, Northland Workforce Training Center hosted our Annual Awards Celebration, featuring a special conversation between Buffalo Bills Offensive Lineman Dion Dawkins and our President & CEO, Stephen Tucker.

🏈 In this clip, Dion shares his thoughts on the brand new Highmark Stadium, what it feels like to run through the tunnel on game day, and the significance of the new stadium for the city of Buffalo and Bills fans!

On Thursday, October 22, the United Way of Buffalo & Erie County will celebrate the 10th anniversary of Pitch10, an inspiring event where Western New York nonprofits take the stage to pitch bold ideas for creating positive change in our community.

This year, Northland Workforce Training Center President & CEO Stephen Tucker will serve as a coach for Pitch10!

During the event, 10 nonprofit organizations will compete for a share of $50,000 in prize grants. Each organization will deliver a live pitch showcasing how its work aligns with United Way’s three key focus areas: Youth Opportunity, Financial Security, or Healthy Community.

We hope you’ll join us on October 22 at Shea’s Buffalo for an evening filled with inspiring stories, passionate leaders, and bold ideas dedicated to making Western New York a stronger community.

One of our favorite parts of the Summer Youth Academy is introducing young people to careers in advanced manufacturing and clean energy that they may not have otherwise known about.

We’re proud that many students who have participated in the Summer Youth Academy have gone on to enroll in programs at Northland, graduate, and launch successful careers in the industry.

It’s all about giving young people a glimpse of what their future could look like—while spending the summer developing new skills, exploring career opportunities, and visiting some of Western New York’s top manufacturers.

The future starts here!

Today, we were honored to welcome Governor Kathy Hochul to Northland Workforce Training Center for an important announcement about expanding access to free community college.

Governor Hochul announced that New York is expanding access to free community college to help prepare tens of thousands of New Yorkers for workforce disruptions caused by artificial intelligence. This expansion includes Erie County and will help connect more New Yorkers with education and training opportunities in high-demand fields.

Joining Governor Hochul for today’s announcement were Northland Workforce Training Center President & CEO Stephen Tucker, SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr., New York Assembly Majority Leader Crystal D. Peoples-Stokes, NYS Assemblywoman, and current Northland student Frank Rosa.

Thank you, Governor Hochul, for choosing Northland Workforce Training Center as the location for this important announcement and for highlighting the opportunities available to New Yorkers looking to build successful careers in high-demand industries.

One of our favorite parts of summer is welcoming a new group of students to our Summer Youth Academy!

This year, we had The Buffalo News on site to help us capture the experience and highlight the impact of this incredible program.

The video features interviews with students, Northland staff, and industry partners who share what makes the Summer Youth Academy so valuable. The program gives students the opportunity to explore career pathways they may not have previously considered, including opportunities in advanced manufacturing and clean energy, while also giving them a firsthand look at what it’s like to learn and train at Northland.

What a wonderful evening! This past Friday, Northland Workforce Training Center hosted our Annual Awards Celebration at Rich Products.

Our signature fundraising event celebrates and recognizes the organizations and leaders who go above and beyond in supporting Northland’s mission and our students. This year, we were proud to honor New York Power Authority, National Grid, and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield for their outstanding partnership and support.

We also proudly recognized team members who reached the five-year milestone with Northland, as well as recipients of the Joyce Brown Award of Excellence, honoring their commitment to teamwork, innovation, collaboration, integrity, and service.

The evening also featured a special fireside chat with Northland Workforce Training Center Ambassador and Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Dion Dawkins and NWTC President and CEO Stephen Tucker.

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors, honorees, team members, partners, and everyone who helped make this year’s celebration such an unforgettable evening. We’re grateful for your continued support and look forward to seeing you again next year!

RCG is proud to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the new Clean Technology Training Lab and Clean Energy Experience Center at Northland Workforce Training Center! ✂️

Our team helped bring this initiative to life through construction of the “smart building” and experience center. This space gives students hands-on experience with building systems and clean energy technologies, helping them prepare for careers in building maintenance.

Congratulations to Northland and our project partners on this milestone! It’s an honor to contribute to a project that opens doors for the next generation of skilled professionals in Western New York.

Today is a big day at Northland Workforce Training Center!

We officially celebrated the ribbon-cutting of our brand-new Western New York Clean Energy Experience Center and Clean Technology Training Lab, alongside our partners at the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and National Grid!

This incredible project was made possible through the support, collaboration, and commitment of many outstanding partners, including National Grid, NYPA, Empire State Development’s Office of Strategic Workforce Development, The Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. Foundation, The Knox Foundation, Zenobē, and many others.

These new spaces represent an exciting step forward for clean energy education, workforce development, and hands-on training in Western New York. Together, the Western New York Clean Energy Experience Center and Clean Technology Training Lab will help prepare today’s workforce while inspiring the next generation of leaders to power New York’s clean energy future.
