Good news from Uganda: The first fish in “Yetana Fish Pond” are growing well and multiplying better than expected. The villagers, who hand-dug the pond, anticipate the first harvest in 2 weeks – earlier than expected. Sebastian writes, “This batch will be for sale to the community, and the proceeds will promote and support community projects and assist in the incomes of the needy in the parish (the fish pond was dug on land owned by the local Catholic parish).”

From Sharon..."Great news today from Sebastian: the Yetana Fish Pond is now stocked with fish! This many-months-long project, that started with villagers hand-digging a 62’ x 25’ x 4’ hole, is now in its last stages. Soon the Bagishu people will have more protein in their diets. Special thanks to all of you whose donations made this project possible, especially SIFE at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY."

Today Canisius SIFE made a generous $300 donation to Global African Village. The funds will be used to continue work on a fish pond currently under construction by the Bagishu people of Eastern Uganda.

"Levi Kutosi was able to buy a cow, with the small-business grant from SIFE (Students in Free Enterprise) at Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. A small business in rural Uganda can be as simple as buying another cow. That can inprove people's lives!"

We finished as second runner-up in our bracket, and top 60 in the country. Next year is our year!

We finished presenting in the first round of the SIFE National Competition. We will know the results by 5pm or 6pm.

We will be teaming up with Journey's End to participate in the "Home Again Project". Students that are looking to get rid of apartment furniture or various other household items are encouraged to donate them to Canisius SIFE. These items will be used to furnish the houses of newly immigrated refugees. If you have any items you wish to donate please post a comment and we will arrange a pick up/ drop off.

Thank you for everyone who showed up for the final meeting! It has been another successful year and we hope to continue some of our projects into the summer.
