Join us October 7th, 2026, for Headway's Lawn Fete on the River Fundraiser at Tewksbury Lodge in Buffalo.

We're excited to bring our community together for an evening of fun, connection, and support for our mission.

Headway of WNY is a non-profit agency whose mission is to ensure that individuals in Western New York with brain injuries, other cognitive conditions, and seniors have access to resources and support systems to enable them to live as independently as possible. Headway serves those in Erie, Niagara, Chautauqua, Orleans, Wyoming, and Cattaraugus Counties.

Money raised for Headway goes towards all the services we provide, that are not part of the two waiver programs we administer for the New York State Department of Health.

We're also seeking donations for our basket raffle and silent auction. Your generosity helps make this event a success and supports our mission.

Aphasia is a communication disorder caused by a stroke, brain injury, or, more rarely, a condition called Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA). It affects a person’s ability to use language. Therefore, a person may have challenges talking, understanding others, reading, writing, and using numbers. Aphasia does not impact intelligence or memory, but is highly dependent on the cause, location, and extent of damage. It is a frustrating impairment as people with aphasia still know what they want to say and can make their own decisions. Aphasia can range from mild to severe and may impact one or several aspects of communication.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine Committee on Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury Recovery and Late Effects for Social Security Disability Evaluation is inviting people with traumatic brain injury (TBI), caregivers, and community partners to anonymously share their experiences and perspectives on living with TBI or caring for individuals with TBI. The committee is interested in hearing about lived experiences, especially with respect to care and management following TBI and long-term effects from TBI (i.e., effects lasting more than 12 months from the time of injury), and (if applicable) your experience applying for or supporting a survivor’s application for disability benefits for TBI through the Social Security Administration.

Today, we pause to remember the lives taken on May 14, 2022, during the tragic shooting at Tops on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo. We honor the victims and their loved ones and stand united against hate. ❤️

On Thursday, May 21 business owners are invited to join Erie County’s Division of Equal Employment Opportunity for "Elevate & Connect – All Access Resource & Networking Day."

Attendees will gain valuable insights into MWBE certification requirements, learn how to pursue government contracting opportunities, and engage directly with more than 15 organizations offering critical business resources, including funding opportunities and technical assistance.
