Good morning Trinidad Neighbors, Members and Friends. I hope this message finds you well.
Attention:
Please see below for a TNA urgent call to address a neighborhood concern!!!
Most of our Neighborhood Street Drains and Sewer Registers are Clogged!!!
It is ncessary to have ongoing & an effective and consistent maintenance plan to keep water flowing to all the neighborhood street Sewer Registers to allow for proper drainage.
Expectations: (COB)
In Buffalo, NY, block clubs and residents are encouraged to help prevent sewer drain issues by (Completely clearing leaves, grass clippings, and litter from the top of storm drains/catch basins on their Street.)
The actual maintenance and cleaning of the sewer system infrastructure (underground) itself are the responsibility of professional plumbers or the Buffalo Sewer Authority (BSA).
Community Involvement:
What we can do as a Neighborhood Association and Block Club working together:
Buffalo Sewer Authority partners with local community groups, including block clubs and the Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper, to encourage activities that lead to cleaner streets and prevent water pollution.
* Surface Cleaning: Our Trinidad Block Club has organized many neighborhood cleanup events to sweep and bag litter, leaves, and other debris from the street surface around storm drains.
* This preventative measure helps ensure proper water flow into the drain and prevents pollutants from entering local waterways.
* Education: We are sending this reminder to our TNA residents regarding the Leaves and Debris covering the Street Drains in our neighborhood!
* Please be a (Good Neighbor) and (Clear all Trash, Leaves and Debris from YOUR Street Drains and those near your Residence)
* This will help to avoid Costly Sewer Backups during and after Winter Storms and Flooding Events.
* Please deposit trash in proper receptacles and never dump anything, including chemicals or non-degradable products (like wipes), down storm drains.
* Reporting: If a drain appears to be clogged (Below) the surface, or if there is a major blockage or sewer backup, residents and block clubs should contact the City of Buffalo 311 department for assistance.
Official Responsibilities: Who to Call for Major Issues:
It is against city regulations for unauthorized individuals to open or alter any public sewer or its appurtenances. The BSA and professional, licensed plumbers use specialized equipment and training for significant blockages or repairs.
* For issues within the Public sewer lines, the Buffalo Sewer Authority is responsible for maintenance and repairs.
* For clogs and issues within the private sewer lines connecting a home to the public system, the Property Owner is responsible for hiring a professional plumber.
Feel free to let me know if you would like to volunteer to assist our neighborhood with these efforts, and if you have any questions.
Thank you!
Ms. Ellen Harris-Harvey
President, TNA B.C.
