lanoma and Cancer research. In June of 2020, at the age of 36, James went to the dermatologist for the first time to get a spot check on the left side of his face. It turned out to be Melanoma and by the time he went in for surgery to remove the initial site, it had already progressed to Stage III. He had 2 surgeries and a year of immunotherapy treatment, which kept the cancer at bay until early 2022 when a CT scan revealed that the cancer had come back, this time in the lymph nodes in his neck and chest, progressing to stage 4. He underwent another round of immunotherapy treatment, which successfully halted the spread of the cancer for now. Melanoma is a growing global health problem, with more than 91,000 new cases diagnosed each year in the United States. Its ability to spread widely and quickly to other body parts makes melanoma the deadliest of all skin cancers. It can strike anyone, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or age. Alarmingly, melanoma is one of the most common forms of cancer diagnosed in young adults, and the most common cancer diagnosed in people aged 25-29. Despite recent scientific progress, patients with metastatic melanoma still face a grim outlook. In the United States alone, over 9,000 people die from melanoma each year.
