🚨🚨Columbia Police Chief W.H. ‘Skip’ Holbrook announces that investigators with the Special Victims Unit (SVU) have arrested a couple in connection with the death of a two (2) month old minor child.
 
Ja-Tiasia Shannon has been charged with one (1) count of homicide by child abuse and five (5) counts of Unlawful Conduct Towards a Child.

Derek Sumter has been charged with four (4) counts of Unlawful Conduct Towards a Child.

Columbia Police Officers and Investigators were dispatched to the hospital on the morning of June 21, 2026 after medical staff pronounced the 2-month old baby deceased.

A joint investigation with the Richland County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division revealed the child had recently sustained multiple injuries that resulted in his death.

 Investigators also found the state of the home to be unsuitable living conditions for all of the other minor children residing in the home.

The Columbia Police Department Special Victims Unit would like to acknowledge the assistance of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division’s Child Fatality Unit, the Richland County Coroner’s Office, and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in this investigation.

Both parties are currently being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

All persons arrested/charged are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty in a court

‘How young you want him?:’ FBI charges Warren man in child s*x abuse video case

A Warren man is charged with receiving and possessing child s*xually abusive material after investigators say they found dozens of explicit videos sent to him through a mobile messaging app.

The FBI said he received as many as 20 videos in one day and even discussed wanting to s*xually abuse boys as young as five years old.

Although Danthony JaJaun Ray, 35, of Warren was not arrested until June of 2026, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) said the case involving Ray and another suspect goes back to September of 2025.
