CARE Buffalo

CARE Buffalo A mutual aid resource to help those in need in the Buffalo & WNY area.

Started December 24th, 2022 in the wake of the Buffalo Blizzard by a Buffalo expat who wanted to find a way to help from afar:

Buffalo Blizzard of '22 Resource Group on Facebook run by CARE (Community Aide & Resources for Emergencies) Buffalo

(the name will switch to CARE Buffalo in a few weeks.) The Group name will change to whatever major event or emergency is occurring in Buffalo and througho

ut WNY. Our mission:

The groups focus is to provide mutual aid information as well as resources to those in need during an active event occurring in the region. When there is no longer an active event occurring in the area the groups focus will be to provide information on how to be prepared ahead of time of a potential disaster. The emphasis will be on:
- Providing a one stop source for streamlined local emergency news and information.
- Providing a database for the latest information on shelters, food pantries and Code Blue alerts
-Disaster and emergency preparedness, teaching what to do during an emergency or natural disaster, how to build and stock emergency kits for home, work, school and travel.
-Provide safe instructions on how to acquire extra medication, or medical supplies to ride out a potential disaster.
-Instructions on how to care for individuals with disabilities during a major crisis.
-We will also provide information on how to keep ample amounts of food on hand, food storage and rotation.
-We will also show and provide resources on how to build emergency kits and food cashes for emergencies for those that are low income, fixed income or on a budget.
-We are committed to assisting those who identify as an unhoused person find resources such as food and shelters not just when a disaster strikes but 365 days a year as well as resources for those suffering from SUD (substance use disorder) as well as AUD (alcohol use disorder). Our goal is to prevent further future deaths and injuries to members of our community by keeping them informed and educated with the tools needed to thrive while staying connected with others and exchanging resources in a time of need.

If Hurricane is forecast to impact your area early next week, take the weekend to finalize your home prep. Clear storm drains and gutters to reduce the likelihood of flood waters entering your home. Bring outdoor items inside to minimize injury or property damage.

Your toddler eats a whole bottle of gummy vitamins.
Your dog has chewed up a bottle of laundry detergent.
Your grandma took her morning medications, then took them again, and again.

When the unexpected happens, call your local poison center. For Erie County, your call to 1-800-222-1222 goes to the experts at the Upstate New York Poison Center. Add that number to your phone!
