We recently joined our Double Up Food Bucks NY programpartner Providence Farm Collective in Orchard Park, where we spent the morning weeding and deadheading the Giving Garden, an entirely volunteer-tended flower garden.

Providence Farm Collective began in 2017 as the Somali Bantu Community Farm, a three-year pilot created to address fresh food insecurity and farmland access. In 2019, it became a nonprofit with a powerful mission: cultivating farmer-led, community-rooted agriculture and food systems that uphold the rights of under-resourced peoples.

As the only organization in Western New York dedicated to supporting under-resourced farmers, PFC provides access to farmland, farming and business education, technical assistance, market connections, and the opportunity to farm for both family and income.

We are a proud partner to help build healthier neighborhoods and a more equitable food system for all. 💚

When you nourish a community with more than just food, the possibilities grow.

For over 100 years, the Niagara Falls City Market has been a community cornerstone. Since 2022, Field & Fork Network has proudly managed the market, breathing new life into this historic space, transforming it into a vibrant hub where food, culture, and community come together.

This season, we’re growing more than just produce, we’re growing purpose.

Thanks to an incredible partnership with the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, their Mobile Health Clinic will be on site every week providing free basic health screenings and resources. Hear from AmyLynn Bryniarski and Dr. Kaung Ko on why bringing care directly to communities and people in need is critical to creating a more accessible and equitable health care system.

From fresh food and local vendors to family-friendly fun and essential health services, this is more than a market. It’s a movement.

That’s the idea behind Produce Prescription (PRx) programs, a growing movement in New York and beyond that puts fresh food at the center of chronic disease prevention.

More healthcare providers are recognizing that healthy food isn’t a luxury, it’s a lifeline. From helping patients with diabetes stabilize their blood sugar to empowering families with the tools to cook at home, PRx programs are reshaping what “care” can look like.

Studies show these programs lead to measurable improvements in blood pressure, BMI, and food security. And they’re gaining traction with both providers and patients alike.

We’re proud of the community-centered work happening at the Niagara Falls City Market, a space we’ve been working hard to revitalize into a vibrant, welcoming hub for fresh food access, small business growth, and neighborhood connection.

Through intentional community outreach, new vendor partnerships, and enhanced market programming, we’ve transformed the market into more than just a place to shop, it’s becoming a place to gather, grow, and support one another.

This transformation is also creating meaningful opportunities for local farmers and food producers. By giving them a consistent and visible platform to sell their products, the market is helping strengthen local food systems and support small-scale agriculture right here in Niagara County.

Led by Joanna Congi, a Niagara Falls native and our City Market Manager, this work reflects our commitment to building strong, inclusive food environments that serve both residents and regional growers.

As part of this effort, we were excited to welcome Channel 4 News to the market to help share the story.
