As members of the community wear orange for “Gun Violence Awareness Month” we at the PBA must point out that we are only two weeks into June and there have been 9 Shootings with 11 Shooting victims so far.

Orange shirts won’t stop violent crime in Buffalo. Police can prevent and solve violent crime in our City. The department is understaffed and our members are stretched too thin.

We have been without a contract for 351 days! It is impossible to recruit and difficult to retain without a new, dynamic and creative, contract.

On the eve of early voting opening in NYS, here is a reminder from the PBA to support those that support public safety. I was honored to be asked to speak at The NYS Public Safety Alliance held in NYC earlier this year.

We wish our dedicated PBA members success over the next several months as they begin the daunting process of seeking departmental promotion, by sitting today and tomorrow for the written portion of the exam.

With such dedication: Why is violent crime going up?

The department is currently below minimum staffing numbers at Captain and Lieutenant.

Still no word on when the next officer entry recruitment exam will be, while the department is over 100 officers below budgeted minimum.

It has been 345 Days since the police contract expired at the end of June 2025!

As the Department’s 4 cadets graduate the Academy and move on to Field Training this week, the Buffalo PBA pray for their safety.

Officers in Buffalo were shot at again yesterday.

The Department is short at least 100 officers and below minimum in both Captain and Lieutenant supervisory positions.

344 Days since the contract expired. The time for the city to work together with the PBA to effectively come up with creative ways to retain and recruit is slipping by.

As Gov. Hochul designates June as 'Gun Violence Awareness Month’ in NYS. Here are some things to consider locally.

In Buffalo for Jan-May of 2026 shooting incidents are up 9% and shooting victims are up 11%, when compared to the same time frame last year.

In June we have had as many days, as we have had shooting victims(6). Tragically a couple of these victims have died.

The PBA has been warning for over a year of the projected increase in violent crime that would correlate with a projected rash of police retirements. Compounding this issue is that there has been a lack of recruitment to find replacement cadets during this same time frame.

It has been 341 days since our contract expired. Now more than ever it is necessary for the city to sit down with the PBA and collaborate on creative ways to retain current officers and recruit new ones.
