The days Following 5/14/2022 were filled with pain, anger, disappointment, resentment, and recovery. However, there were also moments of gratefulness, hope, love, and joy. Zaire’s life was spared, we celebrated his 21st birthday, and in July of 2022, Zaire and I had the honor of being at the White House to celebrate the passage of the bipartisan Safer Communities Act. The first piece of gun legislation in more than 30 years.

Watching Zaire walk on the grounds of the White House was a blessing. He survived, 10 others did not, our community was traumatized, but today, the work continues.

As you move about your day remember the families whose loved ones were stolen from them. Let the memory of who they were fuel you to act for the betterment of our community. 🩵

Zeneta & Zaire's Book Club Reading Nook now has a permanent home in our Scott Bieler Center for Academic Excellence. 📚

Alumna & Councilwoman Zeneta B. Everhart & her son, Zaire, a former student, cut the ribbon on the new space this week, marking its official opening.

Yesterday, Zeneta & Zaire’s Book Club teamed up with Buffalo Bills defensive back Ja’Marcus Ingram to celebrate the launch of his debut book, The Lil’ Player That Could.

This special event at the Boys & Girls Club highlighted the power of literacy and community. Huge thanks to Ja’Marcus for inspiring our youth and to the Boys & Girls Club, the Buffalo Bills Foundation, and everyone who made this event unforgettable! 📚💙

Big News! ‼️ I'm ecstatic to announce my Summer Essay Project for students in the City of Buffalo!

As the chair of the Buffalo Common Council Education Committee, I'm thrilled to launch my first-ever Summer Essay Project. This exciting initiative aims to foster a love for reading and writing among students from 5th grade through high school in the City of Buffalo.

Here's how it works:
📚 Registration: Students can register starting TODAY, June 18th via: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfLFFnZzNBx3RWx6Ql622wnILlW7TKgUGUZ4aCiiNtyaiSPrQ/viewform

📖 Free Book Selection: Starting July 1st, selected books and essay prompts will be available at local libraries. Students can pick up a FREE book that matches their age group and keep it!

📝 Handwritten Essay Submission: After reading their chosen book, students will write a two-page essay by hand. Essays can be submitted at local libraries starting August 1st, with the final deadline on August 31st.

Two winners will be selected from the 5th to 8th grade group, and two from the high school group. Winners will be honored at the Buffalo Common Council Education Committee meeting on Tuesday, September 24th. Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to enhance your reading and writing skills this summer!
