On June 10th Sadie Burr will be announced as the recipient of the $1000. winner of the Dr. Leonard Katz Memorial Scholarship. Sadie attends Erie 1 BOCES New Vision classes for healthcare. She will be entering Binghamton University in the fall.

Earlier this week the E1B Educational Foundation presented area students with $2000. worth of cash awards for their fantastic entrepreneurial pitches. Student Start Up - an Erie 1 BOCES Arts and Education and WNYRIC event was held at UB North Campus. The competition was amazing and said to rival college level contest standards. Winning teams were as follows:
Castaway Kits led by Olivia Leazott - $1000.
Dawg App led by Laila Rolinson - $500.
Reclaymed led by Theodore Good - $250.
Movie Nest led by Elliott Catalano - $250.

Congratulations to Brenna Towle, Kristine Ford, Sharon Shilen and all of the teachers of the eLearning Program located at Calspan. These are the mini grant awardees for the 11th round of Donald A. Ogilvie Memorial Teacher Mini Grants.

The Foundation will also be awarding a $1000 scholarship to a student who exemplifies the compassionate caring exhibited by Dr. Leonard Katz, the late husband of our founder. Dr. Katz was not only an exemplary gastroenterologist but a strong advocate for many local community endeavors. The Dr. Katz Scholarship will be awarded this year to:
Sadie Burr - Sadie is an Erie 1 BOCES student in Mrs. Christine Tillman's New Visions Connection Health program. Sadie plans to study Integrative Neuroscience at Binghamton University and aspires to be a physician. Besides her stellar academic achievements, Sadie volunteers with the Lancaster Volunteer Ambulance and also with Creative Therapies working with children and families receiving early intervention services. In her spare time she enjoys reading and recently took up boxing! Sadie's home school district is Lancaster CSD.

2025-26 High School $1000 Scholarships funded by the Amherst Federal Credit Union are awarded to :
Otto Borden - Otto is an Erie 1 BOCES student in Mr. Travis Mawhir's Electronics and Applied Technologies program at the Harkness CTE Center. Otto plans to study Robotics Engineering in college and aspires to a career in engineering management. Otto's home school district is Williamsville CSD.
Giuliana Bishouty - Giuliana is an Erie 1 BOCES student in Mr. Anthony Lleras' Education Pathways Academy (New Visions, Education). Giuliana's goal is to become a culturally responsive French, Spanish and Teacher of English to Speakers of Other Languages for grades 7-12. Giuliana plans to attend Niagara University to study Education with concentrations in Spanish and French. Giuliana's home school district is Clarence CSD.

Gigi Anner an Erie 1 BOCES student at Maryvale was the 2nd place winner at the recent Art Challenge event held on March, 2026 at Villa Maria College. The Foundation supported this event and provided judges. The event was coordinated by Dan Lynch, E1B Senior Coordinator, Arts in Education.
