America labeled Nelson Mandela a terrorist. They never used that label for the Ku Klux Klan.

Nelson Mandela spent 27 years in prison fighting apartheid. He became President of South Africa. He won the Nobel Peace Prize. He became one of the most respected leaders in modern history.

Yet the United States government kept him on its terrorist watch list until 2008. In fact, Mandela had to receive special permission from the U.S. government to enter the country because he was still classified as a terrorist. (UPI)

Meanwhile, the Ku Klux Klan spent generations bombing Black churches, lynching Black people, terrorizing families, murdering civil rights workers, and enforcing white supremacy through violence and intimidation.

One was treated as a terrorist for fighting racial oppression.

The other was never formally designated a terrorist organization.

History has a way of exposing not only who was labeled a terrorist, but who was protected from being labeled one.
