It is with very heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Dr. Marvin Beeman.

Our Littleton Equine family has been so lucky to have had three professional “fathers” who taught us how to care for both people and horses. Dr. Beeman lived and practiced with passion and wonder for the horse. His enthusiasm and joy were infectious and inspirational to all of us.

His decades of service, leadership and mentorship will leave a lasting impact on the horse industry and all of the lives that he touched. He will be missed as fiercely as he lived his life.

✔️The Facts About Screwworm from the American Horse Council

The American Horse Council (AHC) is working to share critical information for horse owners regarding the current New World Screwworm (NWS) infestation recently announced in Texas.

On June 3, 2026, the U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed New World Screwworm in the umbilical area of a calf in Zavala County, Texas. This expansion into the United States is alarming and AHC wants to make sure you know about the potential risks of this parasitic fly to horses.

While this might seem like an overwhelming and scary situation, we’ve dealt with this before and have confidence in current science based strategies. The United States historically was afflicted with Screwworm for hundreds of years before successfully eliminating it from the country in the 1960s using many of the same methods we use now.

We’ve eliminated it before, and have full faith we’ll do it again, but only if all horse owners do their part to stay vigilant and follow state guidelines for animal movement.

Evening Operations Update (6/15)
The South Fork Fire remains at 38,914 acres with containment increasing to 64%.

Today's Red Flag conditions provided a significant test for firefighters, and crews report that all containment lines held through the wind event. The entire northeastern side of the fire, including Division Zulu, is now showing containment. The only area that remains uncontained in the south is on Highway 20 in the cottonwood stands, where crews continue mop-up and hotspot suppression.

An aerial reconnaissance flight this afternoon found conditions looking very good across the fire. The southern edge in Divisions Alpha and Juliet showed little to no visible smoke, while smoke observed in the northern Divisions Zulu and Delta was primarily well within the interior of the fire perimeter. The large unburned "donut hole" in Delta has now burned out, and overall smoke activity was limited despite challenging weather conditions.

As expected, warmer temperatures, lower humidity, and gusty winds produced some visible interior smoke today. These smokes remain well within the fire footprint and are not associated with perimeter growth.

A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 9:00 p.m. tonight, and a Fire Weather Watch is in effect for tomorrow.

🌲🐴 FRBCH members have come through again!

A big thank you to Jerry Amrhein and Doug Howell for their hard work clearing two downed trees from the east side of the Stephens Gulch Trail at Indian Creek. One tree measured approximately 16 inches in diameter and the other 6 inches.

Thanks to their efforts, the trail is now safer and more accessible for all users. The before-and-after photos show the difference their work made and the dedication it takes to keep our trails open.

We appreciate members who step up to help keep our trails open and enjoyable throughout the season!

Help us preserve and maintain some of Colorado's beautiful horse trails while enjoying a fun weekend of camping, camaraderie, and riding!

Join us for one of our favorite annual trail-clearing weekends at the beautiful Huerfano State Wildlife Area (HSWA)!

We'll spend two days clearing and maintaining trails in this scenic area. The campground features a large meadow with plenty of room for multiple rigs, a creek running through camp with ample water for horses, and two port-a-potties for convenience.

🍽️ Friday Night Dinner, FRBCH will be serving dinner Friday evening.

We hope to enjoy a short pleasure ride before everyone heads home.
