Thank you Town Trustee Micha Rose for making a public comment about celebrating Pride Month during last Monday's trustee meeting and for mentioning Seven Peaks Pride! Buena Vista's LGBTQIA+ community is proud that we have community leaders like you in our community. Happy Pride Month and thank you again for your leadership!
Here is what Trustee Rosenoer said: "I just wanted to take a brief moment to acknowledge that June is Pride Month.
I know that in our community, there can be a lot of misunderstanding about what Pride is or isn't. In the end, within the LGBTQ community, of which I am a member, Pride Month is about recognizing the history and ongoing oppression of LGBTQ people, and our fight for civil rights. But more simply, Pride Month is about recognizing that LGBTQ people are part of every community - including Buena Vista - and that they deserve to live openly, safely, and with the same dignity and opportunity as everyone else.
For me, Pride is about visibility, belonging, and making sure that no child or adult feels like they have to hide who they are to be accepted by their neighbors. I believe our role as local leaders is to serve everyone in our community, and acknowledging Pride Month is one small way of recognizing that everyone deserves to feel seen and welcome here.
I also want to thank the BV Pride Coalition for putting on a wonderful series of events this past Sunday - they did a great job - and to wish everyone a meaningful Pride Month."
BV Pride Coalition is inviting all to come to the next Trustee Meeting on Tuesday June 23rd to thank the trustees for their acknowledgement of Pride Month.
