Zach has been a driving force in our surf community here in BV for years, and it’s been so much fun watching his kids grow up at the river—graduating from boogie boards to surfing and becoming part of the next generation of river surfers.

The Chambers family has given so much to our whitewater park and paddling community, and we’re incredibly grateful for their continued support. Thank you for helping make projects like Pocket Wave possible and for investing in the future of river recreation in Buena Vista!

Long summer evenings, good friends, and a few laps under the fading light. There’s something special about squeezing in a surf session when most people are winding down for the day.

Pocket was firing, the vibes were high, and nobody seemed in a hurry to leave.

Big news! Thanks to a CCYA (Chaffee County Youth Alliance) Mini Grant, the youth were awarded $2,500 to partner with the Town of Buena Vista on a restoration project along the river.

The grant funded the planting of 55 native plants and shrubs designed to help discourage the creation of unauthorized social trails while protecting sensitive riverbank habitat. These plantings will help guide foot traffic to designated access points, reduce erosion, and keep our river corridor healthy for years to come.

A huge thank you to CCYA, Tala- Brynn Ronning Sandoval and everyone who helped make this project possible. Small actions can make a big difference for our river.

Second Annual Surf & Turf Fundraiser to Support Buena Vista’s River Park and BV Public Lands Trail System
Buena Vista, CO – Friends of the Buena Vista River Park, in partnership with the Buena Vista Singletrack Coalition, is proud to announce the return of Surf & Turf Fundraiser on Sunday, July 26, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Ivy Ballroom, Surf Hotel in Buena Vista, CO.

This exciting event invites the community to come together in support of the vibrant outdoor spaces that make Buena Vista so special. Attendees will enjoy an evening of exceptional local food and drink, live music, and visual arts, all in celebration of the Arkansas River, River Park, and the surrounding trail system.

“For the same price as a night out, guests will experience an unforgettable evening while directly supporting the preservation and improvement of the river and trails we all love,” said organizers from Friends of the Buena Vista River Park.

The groms are getting after it! 🤘

After watching, waiting, and counting down the days, they’re finally out there making the most of the wave. Seeing the next generation of paddlers progress, build confidence, and have a blast is exactly what it’s all about.

We’re lucky to have this wave right here in our backyard and even luckier to have so many stoked young river runners enjoying it.
