Today is National Medal of Honor Day.

There are acts of courage that words struggle to contain. The men and women who have received the Medal of Honor performed those acts. They made decisions in the most extreme circumstances imaginable, put the lives of others ahead of their own, and in many cases paid the ultimate price for it.

Since the Civil War, just over 3,500 service members have received this nation's highest military honor. That number is small by design. The threshold is not bravery alone. It is bravery of a kind that stands apart from everything else.

We pause today not simply to observe a date on the calendar, but to genuinely reflect on what these recipients gave and what they represent. Their courage set a standard for selfless service that continues to inspire every generation that follows.

To the recipients of the Medal of Honor, and to the families who carry their memory, this department stands in your honor today.

Happy St. Patrick's Day! While we love seeing our community celebrate, tonight is one of the busiest nights of the year for impaired driving. NHTSA data shows around 47 people lose their lives in drunk driving crashes during this holiday, and that's a number we want to bring down together.

Our members will be out in force tonight, but here's how you can help keep everyone safe:
Plan your ride home before you start drinking. Rideshare, designated driver, whatever works for you.
Look out for your crew. If someone in your group is thinking about driving after drinking, speak up.
Know your limits. It's a celebration, not a competition.
Just don't do it. No destination is worth a drunk driving charge, or worse.

Saving Time begins today, Sunday, March 8 - and with it comes a documented, temporary decline in cognitive reaction times across the general population. Research shows the loss of just one hour of sleep measurably affects decision-making and response time, even in trained professionals.

Use this weekend as a reminder to check your home smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. It takes two minutes and it saves lives. And as you head into the week ahead, be deliberate about rest. The people who depend on you need you sharp.

Happy Birthday to the United States Navy Reserve.

Since its establishment, the Navy Reserve has answered the call in every major conflict — with reservists making up a staggering 84% of the entire Navy force at the end of World War II. Today, nearly 60,000 Selected Reserve personnel carry that legacy forward, maintaining mission-ready status while serving their home communities in uniform.

Many of our own members know this commitment firsthand - balancing shifts, court dates, and community duties with federal deployments across the globe. That's not one job. That's a calling times two.

To every law enforcement professional who also wears the Navy Reserve anchor - we see you, we honor you, and we thank you.

Presidents’ Day is more than a long weekend - it’s a reminder that leadership, sacrifice, and service help define our nation.

Did you know? This was the first federal holiday created to honor an individual’s birth date - originally celebrating George Washington on February 22 before moving to the third Monday in February.

Today we take a moment to reflect on those ideals of leadership and responsibility that continue to guide communities across the country.

That's the number of names inscribed on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C. - dating back to 1786.

In 2025 alone, 111 more heroes made the ultimate sacrifice. On average, each left behind two children.

Today we honor those who run toward danger so the rest of us can run from it. Thank you to the men and women who answer the call - every shift, every day.
