1 step at a time
And with one step down just a few more to go. This was a very long process, personally expensive project and no where near an easy journey but the work of cultural preservation never is.

Mahoran is committed to doing things in a proper systematic way for long term sustainability. One of the last pieces to the puzzle before submitting docs to petition our teachers and get granted a visa was getting a USCIS recognized organization to evaluate and recommend to the US government if our teachers are qualified to come to the US and do what they are intended for. Fun fact there's only really one labor org in the entire country that can do that for ethnic cultural teachers. After a long wait they have returned their answer. Yay!

Next steps? Submitting all documents to immigration to call in the teachers from an interview which Mahoran hopefully will have the means to have it expedited (within 2 weeks). After the interview of they are granted entry they will be on a ✈️ here asap. So we're looking at 3 to 4 weeks with School for Lao Culture and Arts coming shortly after.

We're so excited to introduce you to ຄູສອນ Odai who is a very gifted and talented Lao musician that has traveled to many different countries to perform as well as coming to the US before to teach. His experience working with young US based Lao youth and Lao music abilities cannot make us think of a better person to be one of our starting team and first teachers at Mahoran's School of Lao Culture and Arts.

We have reached 10% of our funding goal all thanks to you. We would like to give a huge congratulations to LAOSD and Wat Lao Buddharam of San Diego for helping our local politicians recognize the month of April as Lao Heritage Month in San Diego. This is a huge step forward and couldn’t be done without the hard work of the entire community, and especially the members of LAOSD. It’s organizations like them that keep our culture alive and inspire us at Mahoran to keep moving forward as well.

This is a kind reminder that we are all working towards a common goal together and that is to BRING UP our community to be heard and seen! Let’s support one another for a greater cause!
