Our 1st Annual Mt. Olive "Sweep the Streets" litter cleanup event was a success! 8 Girl Scouts working towards their Bronze Award have been observing their community and brainstorming take action projects all Winter and Spring. With the support of the Mayor Joe Nicastro and MO Public Works department, the girl scouts organized their take action project to clean up two areas in town. BIG THANK YOU to the 30 volunteers who registered to help clean up Budd Lake & Turkey Brook Park for 2 hours of community service. It was great day and we plan to continue this event again next year!

Hi All! Our Girl Scout Troop is working on our Bronze Award and would like to invite our community to join us for our 1st Annual "Mt Olive Sweep the Streets" event. πŸ—‘οΈπŸ§Ή The girl scouts have noticed litter in remote areas and park fields, so the goal is to have volunteers from the community come together to clean up litter from select areas in Flanders and Budd Lake.

Please join us on Sunday, June 7th from 11am - 1pm. Gloves and trash bags will be provided by our MO Public Works department and exact neighborhood/location meeting spots will be emailed to registered volunteers.

All community members ages 6 years+ are welcome to participate. Children 6-12 must be accompanied by an adult. High School students looking for community service hours welcome too!

On Monday January 26th, it was World Clean Energy Day! Our Girl Scout Juniors have been working on their "Get Moving Journey" to explore the different types of energy, the importance of being energy efficient, and steps to take action towards living an energy efficient lifestyle. For their take action project, they wanted to help the community by creating a "Energy Saving Checklist" that families can use to be energy efficient.

They did online research, performed home energy audits, and searched the web for helpful tips! Our girl scouts will also be printing copies to share with their classmates at school. Please feel free to use and share this checklist with others!

Last Spring 2024, our girl scout troop embarked on their Wonders of Water Journey. As part of their Take Action project the scouts fundraised $525 to support The Water Project in Kenya.

Last week our troop received a field update from The Water Project. Our fundraising campaign has given access to clean water for the Kasanga Primary School in Kenya πŸ‡°πŸ‡ͺ, thanks to the completion of their 104,000-liter rain tank! 🌧 Additionally, The Water Project installed handwashing stations 🚰 and trained students and staff on sanitation and hygiene practices. Thanks to everyone who donated! ❀️
