We are looking for reasonably good photos of the fronts of any of the businesses in the 200 block on the EAST side of S. Sandusky Ave. taken any time from 1910 through 1950. Would anyone who has any such and is willing to share them, kindly send them to us via a message to this page. Thank you!

Does anyone "out there" have any idea what ever became of this film footage? Sure would be great to have it preserved!

One of the truly “fun” things about local history is the “rabbit trials” which one gets to explore whenever studying it. This certainly applies to any one of the many businesses which have occupied the various buildings in Bucyrus over the years. Here is a series of annotated maps made from those old Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps of years past, and showing only a fraction of the city,—the 200-242 block of S. Sandusky Ave.—to help get you started on any one of many journeys down such trails. We may even take you on a few of them here ourselves in the weeks ahead. It’s just another way to celebrate America 250!

The GALION COMMUNITY THEATRE (127 Harding Way West, Galion) is the "official venue" for the June 29th showing of "Parachute Nurse." This is a FREE event at this beautiful vintage venue, thanks to Ohio Goes to the Movies and America 250-Ohio!
Doors open at 6:00. Discussion panel to follow the showing of this 1942 Columbia Pictures black & white film, featuring Bucyrus aviator Lauretta Schimmoler (1900-1981). Her visionary ideas inspired this film.
This is a collaborative effort among the Crawford County History Alliance, Galion Community Theatre, Bucyrus Historical Society, and The Lauretta Schimmoler Museum.
And yes, there will be plenty of popcorn!

Yes, the Open Meeting of the Bucyrus Historical Society held this past Thursday evening was a big success, both in attendance and it the excellent presentation by Mark Cory (assisted by his wife Tami) relating the full story of Col. William Crawford (and his wife Hannah). In addition, some mixed berries, yummy cake, cookies, caramel corn and potato chips were shared by all prior to the formal meeting. We all learned a few new things about our county’s namesake as well as about those Native Americans who had populated Crawford County nearly 250 years ago. A hearty “Thank you” goes out to all who planned and prepared for the meeting as well as to the Corys for the very educational program. For those who missed out, here are what at least a couple of the camera lenses present caught at the meeting.

If you've never had the chance to see this film before, now's your opportunity to do so—on "the big screen" no less! The plot is a bit "corny" but the acting is pretty good—especially Lauretta Schimmoler playing herself.

The Colonel Calls YOU!!! Come and hear all about Col. WILLIAM CRAWFORD, as portrayed by Revolutionary War re-enactor par excellence, Mark Cory, at the annual OPEN MEETING of the BUCYRUS HISTORICAL SOCIETY, tomorrow evening, May 21, 5:30-7:30 PM, in the handicap accessible, lower level auditorium of GOOD HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 129 West Charles Street in Bucyrus. There is plenty of parking and the covered entrance is off the driveway at the south side of the church building. There will be light rations (i.e refreshments) served and a brief business meeting, during which some very special people will be recognized, prior to “the Colonel’s” presentation. Your attendance is expected!—and it’s all free! Kindly leave all swords and long-rifles at home.

AFTER you attend the Open Meeting of the Bucyrus Historical Society at Good Hope Lutheran Church from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM this Thursday, May 21, then go to Lowe-Volk Park this weekend (May 30-31) to SEE and HEAR "the rest of the story" about Col. William Crawford. https://crawfordcountynow.com/local/crawford-park-district-to-host-living-history-days-at-lowe-volk-park. You won't be disappointed in that either—as long as the weather cooperates.

The Crawford Park District's Living History Days return to Lowe Volk Park on May 30-31, featuring expanded 250th-anniversary historical reenactments, military drills, and living history education.

ATTENTION!!! Those who wish to help Alison Kovac with more headstone cleaning at Oakwood Cemetery this coming week (or were planning to come out for the first time just to learn “the art of the trade”), she has found it necessary to change the date/day of the week for this session. It will NOW be held on TUESDAY, May 19, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The session will begin at the Hopley grave site (Section K) in the morning and proceed to the Scroggs site (Section C) in the afternoon. Here are a couple of photos from this past week’s labors. This is an exceedingly valuable project as a part of the Society's contribution to America 250. Do consider being involved!
