Yesterday two Virginia Opossums went back to the wild
This one came in as an orphaned baby and spent the winter with us along with 6 others all males
Opossums are gentle creatures and part of nature’s clean up crew They are solitary animals We wish you well little one ❤️

Painted Turtle Release
I know I am anthropomorphizing but I have never seen a happier turtle She knew exactly where she was going back to her territory

Adult female gray squirrel with a porcupine quill This quill was quite embedded so the squirrel was not able to scratch it off
The quill was removed the squirrel was checked over and sent back home
She most likely picked it up from a tree where a porcupine had lost it

Painted turtle hit by a car and stuck upside down in the road Found by Mey and Harrison from Loud Dog Farm in Orrington
A few scrapes but no breaks in the shell and a small cut by a leg
The turtle will be released tomorrow after being monitored

A female adult gray squirrel hit by a car Head injury and a scraped up nose Not a nursing mother and her teeth are intact so that’s good
Pain meds and hydration
4 more baby gray squirrels @ 2 weeks old
All males Prognosis is good

Baby season has officially started here at Critterville Wildlife Rehabilitation

2 litters of baby gray squirrels came in today
First litter of 3 females and 1 male from Southwest Harbor The drey was compromised during tree cutting They attempted reuniting but mom didn’t return So they put the whole thing in a bucket with a hot water bottle
Second litter 2 females and 1 male from Bar Harbor They came from a hotel dining room which was closed for renovations where the mother squirrel made a nest in the curtains She was running around the room so they opened the door and she ran out Only later did they hear the baby squirrels squeaking So they opened all of the doors and left the area but mom didn’t return Rather than disturb the nest they cut down the curtains and brought the whole thing
They all appear healthy and have been warmed in an incubator and hydrated
They will receive feedings every two hours around the clock
Both litters approximately 2 days old with umbilical cords still attached
Providing a heat source is the most important thing you can do if you find baby animals
And Remember Never to Feed Them
