By December 1776, George Washington’s Continental Army had endured a series of devastating defeats. Exhausted, hungry, and poorly equipped, thousands of soldiers retreated across New Jersey and into Bucks County, where they found a much-needed opportunity to regroup 👣

But what was daily life like for these soldiers? From worn-out shoes and scarce food supplies to the vital contributions of women accompanying the army, their struggle for survival was just as important as the battles they fought 🧼

In the latest installment of Revolutionary Reels, Bucks County Herald Newspaper explores the hardships Washington’s troops faced and the resilience that kept the Continental Army together during one of the most challenging moments of the American Revolution 💥

A Bucks County tradition with more than 70 years of history returns this Saturday, October 10, 2026 from 10 AM–4:30 PM at Historic Fallsington, Inc. (4 Yardley Ave, Levittown, PA 19054) 🗓️

Celebrate Historic Fallsington Day on October 10 with a FREE day of food, crafters, vendors, and live entertainment in one of Bucks County’s historic villages. First held as “Open House Day” in 1954, the celebration continues to welcome visitors from near and far 🏘️

Ahead of America’s 250th, explore Fallsington’s Revolutionary connections at the Stagecoach Tavern, where new exhibits introduce Col. Joseph Kirkbride, who commanded the Bucks County militia during the American Revolution, and Civil War cavalry leader Capt. Samuel Comfort. See Comfort’s sabre and the Bucks County Troop’s battle flag on display 🗡️

Stop by the newly updated Visitors Center at the Gillingham Store to browse the returning Museum Gift Shop and try the HFI Trivia Challenge. All seven answers are on the display boards, and a perfect score earns a discount on membership or a gift shop purchase 💝

Spend a fall day discovering the people, places, and stories that connect Bucks County’s past to its present. Parking at Fallsington Elementary School, followed by a stroll down Yardley Avenue to the festivities 🍂

Located in Doylestown’s circa-1835 Hall House, the museum explores Bucks County’s role in the Civil War through rare artifacts, photographs, artwork, maps, flags, and special exhibitions. Its collections highlight the people who helped shape our nation, with a particular focus on the 104th Pennsylvania Volunteer “Ringgold” Regiment 🔍

Looking to dig deeper? The museum’s research library holds more than 1,500 books, periodicals, rare editions, and other resources 📚

Before Doylestown was the bustling borough we know today, it was a small crossroads with taverns and just a few dozen residents. Imagine what it was like when thousands of Continental Army soldiers passed through in June 1778 👣

George Washington spent the night at the Jonathan Fell House as the army made its way toward Coryell’s Ferry, now New Hope. In the latest Revolutionary Reels, local historians show what this familiar Bucks County landscape looked like during the Revolution ⛪

A Tribute to 250 Heroes 🇺🇸

Warrington sixth grader Maharshi Mahajan is honoring America's 250th anniversary with a heartfelt goal: personally thanking 250 veterans for their service 🫡

Maharshi's project was inspired by his school project about Bucks County's historic landmarks, including a memorable school trip to the State Capitol and a museum in Harrisburg. That experience sparked his passion for honoring history and service, and he began writing thank-you cards and visiting veterans' organizations throughout the community. He has already reached 215 veterans 🙌

Maharshi hopes to thank the remaining 35 veterans and achieve his goal at an upcoming event on September 21. Along the way, he is learning how one young person's gratitude and commitment to service can make a meaningful difference 💞

Please join us in recognizing Maharshi's thoughtful contribution to the commemoration of America's 250th anniversary! Veterans, veterans' organizations and community groups interested in connecting with Maharshi or supporting his project are invited to contact Bucks250PA, and we will share their information with his family 💌
