OUR STORY:
In August of 2018, Buckley resident Sandra Rae
Smith founded "Merry on Main" which was inspired by a conversation with high school students who wanted more ways to get involved. Their goal was to bring life to Buckley's Main Street, promoting kindness and joy along the way. They were able to do this for two years by applying for, and receiving, a Spark Grant which was designed to bring people-powered ideas and dreams to life. Thank you so much Sandra for being such an inspiration to our wonderful town! Long time resident Meri Kay Schiller made darling mischief makers, and Crystal Smith would hide them around town for a photo scavenger hunt! (as of 2024, we are hoping to continue to do this to help contribute to our town's holiday fun!). In Nov 2020, Youth Center workers Jenney and Rachael, from the City's Community Services Department, started Buckley's holiday decorating competition. This brought much needed joy to our town during the interesting times of covid! We are grateful they gave us something fun to look forward to, and that 18 homes and businesses brought a little light into our lives. Then in November 2023, with things opening back up after covid, the City needed somebody to take over the Merry & Bright committee which had taken up where Merry on Main had left off. Local resident Alisa with The Hungry Housewives, and who is a Board Member for the Buckley Chamber of Commerce, decided to volunteer! Alisa and her family have ran a holiday light show called Vintage Small Town Charmer since 2017, and they have helped with the Merry On Main original Committee. Which brings us back to TODAY! We are so happy to continuing to spread the holiday cheer in our darling town of Buckley which includes extending this event to any business or home in the Buckley 98321 area!
