📣 WEST VIRGINIA — WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

WVU Extension and the WVU Division for Land-Grant Engagement are conducting a statewide needs assessment, and we are asking West Virginians to take a few minutes to share what matters most in their communities.

Your input matters. The information collected through this survey will help guide future Extension programs, educational opportunities, resources, and services across West Virginia.

🌱 Agriculture, forestry, and natural resources are an important part of our communities and our state. If these areas—or other issues affecting your family, farm, business, or community—are important to you, we need your voice represented in the results.

REMINDER: The first Upshur County 4-H High School Teen Leader meeting will be tomorrow, Monday, August 24 from 6:30-8:00 at the Upshur County Extension Office. We will be planning out our activities and service projects for the year. We hope you will join us for some fun!

We are excited to host the 2nd Annual Lewis-Upshur Regional Teen Leader Weekend October 2-4 at Upshur County Youth Camp in Selbyville! It is open to all youth currently in grades 6-12. While the two counties mentioned in the name are collaborating to plan the event, we invite campers to join us from any county as long as they are in the age range. No prior 4-H experience is required. The cost is just $25 for the entire weekend, which includes food, lodging, and programming.

Our first teen leader weekend last fall was a big success with 36 campers from three different counties. We would love to see even more campers from more counties this year!

The pool is open so our Upshur County 4-H and UCYLA pool and pizza party for this evening is still on for those that are able to make it. For any that would like to bring a donation of supplies for flood victims, we will collect those and make sure they get to a distribution location.

📢 Attention UCYLA 4-H Members!

Livestock Project Books (not Record Guides) are due to the Upshur County Extension Office no later than 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.
Submitting your project book by the deadline is required to remain in good standing as a 4-H member and be eligible to participate in the 2026 UCYLA Show & Sale.

✅ Project Book Requirements
Your project book must receive a minimum score of 80%.
A completed project book includes completing at least seven (7) activities.
Your helper must initial each completed activity in the activity checklist found in the first few pages of your project book.

📝 Remember:
If you complete an Extra Challenge, don't simply mark it as completed and have your helper initial it. Please write a brief explanation or attach supporting documentation describing what you did.
Example: "We discussed different livestock breeds with a breeder and the Extension Agent during a UCYLA Youth Meeting."
Use complete sentences throughout your project book. One-word answers will not be accepted.
These project books are designed to help you learn and reflect on your livestock project—not just complete a requirement. We want every member to gain as much knowledge and experience as possible in addition to the hands-on aspects of raising your project animal.
