Upshur County WV CERT

Upshur County WV CERT The Upshur County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates and trains people about disaster preparedness and response. Thank you,
Upshur Co.

The Upshur County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in t

heir neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. Want to learn to care for yourself, family and neighbors during an emergency or disaster? Anyone interested in becoming an Upshur County CERT volunteer please contact Upshur County CERT by email at: [email protected] If interested, please provide your name, address, phone number(s), and email address. We will hold your information until we get enough people interested in becoming CERT members, schedule a class and contact you with the information. You must be a resident of Upshur County and attend all three days of scheduled CERT training. Training is normally scheduled on a Tuesday and Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 9:30pm and Saturday from 8:00am to around 4:00 or 5:00pm. The class is free and you will become CERT certified and assigned to a local CERT team. CERT members will be called upon to respond in disasters, emergencies and local events as requested. CERT is a great way to become involved and give back to your community. Citizen Corps Council/CERT

⛈️ Are You Prepared, West Virginia? 🌪️

Governor Patrick Morrisey has officially proclaimed March 22-28, 2026, as West Virginia Severe Weather Awareness Week!

Severe weather affects all 55 of our counties, often bringing unpredictable thunderstorms, tornadoes, and floods that can threaten our homes and safety. This week is our call to action to refresh our knowledge, update our emergency plans, and ensure our families are ready for anything Mother Nature throws our way.

How you can observe this week:
STAY INFORMED: Follow your local National Weather Service office and county Emergency Management officials for real-time updates.
BUILD A KIT: Ensure you have supplies to handle fatalities, injuries, or property damage scenarios.
PRACTICE YOUR PLAN: Use this week to discuss safety drills with your loved ones.
CHECK YOUR WEATHER ALERTS: Stay vigilant by monitoring alerts from your local National Weather Service offices and emergency management officials.

Let’s work together to foster a culture of awareness and protection across the Mountain State.

📍 Proclaimed at the Capitol, City of Charleston.
