What has the CCE done for you?
The CCE has allowed me to learn about how I lead and work effectively with a team. It has given me a way to learn more about my strengths and weaknesses as a leader as well as how to collaborate with a team for a given project.

What is your favorite CCE memory?
Helping cover Graham’s office in sticky notes when he was first hired.

What was a pivotal moment in your life where you used CCE knowledge or skills?
When I did research at WVU, I quickly made friends with the other interns in my lab that I worked with. I was able to identify their strengths and weaknesses pretty quickly as a result of my extensive, team-based work in the CCE, which allowed me to learn how to work effectively and efficiently with them as part of a larger team.

Do you have any advice for others in the program or for those considering applying?
Even if you are unsure, it is definitely worth exploring and looking into.

What has the CCE done for you?
Being a Service Scholar has allowed me to grow as a leader. It has also given me the chance to make an impact and be a role model for the students at Buckhannon Academy
One Memory
One pivotal moment I used my skills and knowledge from being a Service Scholar was when I applied it to nursing. I have learned how to communicate and be confident when interacting with my patients. This has stemmed from engaging with the students at the Academy.

Any advice?
My advice would be to make sure you have good time management skills. As a nursing major and a Service Scholar, I had to make sure to find time in my schedule to complete everything. It may seem hard, but it is possible and worth it.

What has the CCE done for you?

The CCE has helped me develop deeper connections within the surrounding community as well as build friendships within the college community. Both of these helped me find a place within the overall community of everyone.

Favorite Memory?

I don’t think I have one specific favorite memory, but I really enjoy the moments where everyone gets together and we have fun and just celebrate being apart of a a group like the service scholars program. Just having fun with friends in times of otherwise stress is always a good thing.

What was a pivotal moment in your life where you used CCE knowledge or skills?

I just feel like the CCE has allowed me and taught me how to be a more assertive type person. Using what I’ve learned over the years has left me feeling much more confident for after I graduate knowing I’ve already worked more in this community and I hope I have chances to keep serving whatever community I end up with.

Any Advice?

The only advice I might give people applying is that, even if it seems a bit daunting at times, it’s well worth the effort. The CCE helps you develope tons of useful skills for the outside world as well as providing a comforting and fun environment you feel safe with.

What has the CCE done for you?
The CCE has served as an essential support system throughout my time at Wesleyan. They have shown me a new passion for sustainability and gardening through the WE LEAD High Tunnel Team, and have given me the drive to commit myself to lifelong service and community engagement after my graduation from Wesleyan.
What is your favorite CCE memory?
My favorite CCE memory was talking to the new service scholar class at orange and black day. Getting to see what the future of the program would look like and being one of the faces introducing new students to Wesleyan was unforgettable.
What was a pivotal moment in your life where you used CCE knowledge or skills?
I have used the leadership skills gained through my WE LEAD team to put on several staff events in my job as Resident Director of Dunn Hall.
Do you have any advice for others in the program or for those considering applying?
Take advantage of every opportunity the CCE has, from taking part in additional service opportunities in the community outside of your service site, to finding other service scholars to connect with and ask questions about anything you could need help with.
