Community Cat Advocates

Community Cat Advocates We are a group of animal lovers providing support for cats and their caretakers. Our focus is TNR!

We are a small and devoted group of individuals who are passionate about TNR, keeping pets in loving homes, finding homes for stray cats, networking between rescues and shelters, and community knowledge sharing in order to better the lives of animals. We are a registered 501(c)3 (non-profit) and all donations are tax deductible. Between our founders we have many years of experience volunteering wi

th several different rescues and shelters. We have seen suffering, unnecessary killing (masked as euthanasia), neglect, and the hardships that Maine winters always bring. More importantly we have seen courage, resilience, caring, compassion, and people who would do anything to help an animal in need. We are hoping to help Maine's community cats through spay and neuter assistance for underserved populations. We are not an animal shelter, we are here to help with TNR and connect people and cats in need with the appropriate individuals who can assist them.

We wanted to share an update of Grizzy in her new home! She has two CCA alumni brothers that she loves to lounge in the sun with, makes sure to protect the house by being the neighborhood watch from the window, and has claimed this tote bag as the best bed in the house. What weird item has your cat claimed as their bed? 😅

Most of you know we adore our partner shelter Harvest Hills, and have worked with the staff there for many years. Sometimes we switch our wonky cats back and forth, or switch our friendly cats for ferals, etc. We have always tried to help when we can and vice versa. When they had a behaviorally challenging cat (Rosie) that they couldn’t place, we took Rosie to live with us, and when they saw our behaviorally challenging Barnaby needing a place, they took him in hopes he could befriend Meredith’s feral cat.

These two have been coexisting together for many months —but it finally happened—the cuddle puddle! Our hearts could not be happier for these two pals.

We just wanted to share an update on our one eyed guy living his best life. For those of you that remember his story, this is a huge success for a cat with a very traumatic past. Thank you to everyone that came together to give him a peaceful life off the streets.

Do you have a cat with an incredible story? We love seeing updates, or hearing heart warming rescue stories. It’s things like this that keep us going!

Today is thankful Thursday and with all of the negative things on social media we wanted to ask our followers to share photos of whatever they are thankful for today, pets, family, snack food, anything!

We are thankful our wonderful fosters who have fought to keep our most recent kittens healthy and thriving (a team effort! Thank you Darcy and Erica. We are also thankful for the donations which have been arriving this week, keep the cat food coming!

We also wanted to share a quick update on the kittens and mom. We trapped mom on Saturday night! Unfortunately she isn't very healthy and cannot care for her kittens alone so they are receiving lots of supportive care. Currently they are being treated for upper respiratory infections, including eye medication. We can't wait to share their glow ups!

Drop your pictures of what you are appreciative of today below!

Teeny’s foster made the cutest video of her progress. Volume up to listen to this girls incredible story. Huge thanks to her amazing foster family for getting her healthy over the past year. Teeny is so deserving of a home of her own! Please share this girl to help her find her person ❤️

She has gone from 22 pounds to 15. She has lost 7 pounds. That is the size of an entire cat. Can we just let that sink in for a minute?! Weight loss is a slow process that requires safely monitoring and managing portions, prescription foods, medications, increasing exercise and weight checks, etc. Kelly and her family has given Teeny a new lease on life with their continued dedication.

Huge thanks to Taylor Brook Animal Hospital for working with us to make sure this girl could have the most success on her weight loss journey. So proud of you Teeny!

Good morning from our smallest members! We are still working on catching these kids' mom but they are enjoying warm food and all the cuddles. Although these guys are cute, we are in desperate need of supplies and our shelves are empty.

The hard truth of rescue is that there are hundreds of cats in need every day and we are barely keeping up with the ones we have in care. Right now our biggest needs are canned and dry cat food as well as wood pellet litter. If anyone is able to help us, every can of food helps.

Much love to all of our supporters who share our passion for the underdog.

Have we mentioned it’s kitten season? We often find kittens and keep them nice and warm in a carrier. We place the carrier directly behind a humane trap and cover the trap and carrier with a blanket. Then we watch and wait for mom to go in the trap to get her babies. This is normally the quickest way to catch a mom & babies so they can safely get to a rescue together. These babies were born in a junkyard under a broken down car seat.

We can use adult wet cat food, dry food, and kitten food! Please help us fundraise to get these cats and kittens the care they need. We have already trapped and fixed around 100 cats and kittens on this property since 2018, and always go back when new cats get dumped or show up.

Some fun facts about Gracie ✨

She is the best unpaid office manager around. Any time someone prints something she runs to the printer to make sure it was successful. Have a finicky printer? Gracie is ON IT.

She is great for emotional support for writing those tough emails.

She makes sure that tables are spotless by laying sideways to get the right angles to see crumbs.

She also is good at doing this for floors. Your house will never be cleaner.

She would likely do well with a respectful dog or calm cats…so what other sign do you need from the universe to take her home!?

Lately it feels like all we do is ask for help, but the truth is, our funding is extremely limited right now. In spite of this, there are cats who have no other options, without someone stepping up, these cats will not survive.

Buddy is one of these cats and today he needs urgent care. Buddy has symptoms of urinary blockage and is being rushed to Portland Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Care. Male cats can become completely blocked and die within hours unless immediate intervention is obtained. We are waiting for an estimate of cost but are expecting well over $1,000 at minimum. We think Buddy deserves a chance and we hope that our followers will agree. If you are in a position to donate we would be extremely grateful, if you cannot donate, please SHARE this post!!!

Thank you from all of us at CCA and from Buddy. 💕

Help us save the most vulnerable felines. Kitten season is already here, and we are in desperate need of donations for medical care!

We can also use tiki or weruva wet food for trapping if anyone is able to send some our way!

You can also make a donation directly on our account at Taylor Brook Animal Hospital. With multiple cats in care who have needed thousands of dollars worth of medical treatment (one cat alone was over $5000). We really need your support going into kitten season!

When you have been working out and need to protect your foster family from monsters under the bed….but it ends up just being your foster brother. Teeny is hoping to continue working on her fitness with a family who promises to brush her and love on her every day! She is so sweet and has done well with respectful cats and children. We can’t say enough wonderful things about this girl! ❤️
