We Had A Break in. Please Pray for our Girls
Last night, the apartment where our college-age girls live was broken into. Thankfully, and frighteningly, one of our girls was home when it happened.
When she heard the intruders, she ran to her room, locked the door, and called for help from our team, who live across the street in the girls’ home. Two of our workers immediately ran outside, yelling, and the would-be thieves fled.
Thankfully, they did not steal anything or physically harm our precious girl. But the emotional impact has been significant.
The fear our college-age girls are experiencing is very real. The place they had worked so hard to see as a safe home has suddenly been violated. These girls have already walked through so much trauma, and in one cowardly act, the sense of safety we have worked so hard to build has been shaken.
This is also one of the harsh realities of serving and operating in an impoverished nation. We are incredibly grateful for the safety measures we have been able to put in place, but we also face challenges that are very different from those we might experience back home. Resources are limited, emergency response can be slow to non existent at most times, and even significant security measures cannot eliminate every risk.
For context, this is a locked apartment building with electric fencing, a gated and locked garage, and a locked front entrance—similar to many apartment buildings you would see in the United States. Unfortunately, the front entrance includes glass doors, and the thieves simply smashed the glass to gain entry.
Because emergency response times in Peru can be incredibly slow, thieves can have enough time to break in before help arrives. We are considering hiring around-the-clock security to patrol between our homes, but we don't yet know what that would cost or whether it will be financially possible.
For the time being, the girls will move back into the girls’ home while we repair the damage and assess additional security measures.

🙏 Pray that God would comfort our girls and calm the fear that has taken hold of them.
🙏 Pray that God would restore their sense of safety and security.
🙏 Pray for wisdom as we evaluate how to better protect the girls and prevent something like this from happening again.
🙏 Pray for the resources we need if additional security becomes necessary.
🙏 Most of all, pray that God would take what was meant for evil and use it for good in the hearts and lives of our children.
These girls have already experienced more hardship than any child should have to endure. We want them to know that fear does not get the final word. God is still their refuge. God is still their protector. And God is still at work.
