Tala's Closet Tala’s Closet is a free resource store providing clothing, hygiene products, and dignity to survivors of domestic violence and their children.

Named in honor of Tala Smith, a young local woman whose life was taken by domestic violence.

Day 1 of setting up Tala’s Closet new space.

I told my mom we’d definitely be making at least 2 more trips that day.

We made one. 😂

This is what building something from love actually looks like. Not perfectly planned. Not pretty. Just showing up with your mom and figuring it out as you go.

End of day 1 was a mess. We were exhausted. And we couldn’t wait to go back.

🤍 This closet exists for every survivor who got out with nothing. We’re building it for her.

This order is for a mom. And her two kids.

She got out. And she took her babies with her.

When I pack for a family I’m not just thinking about the mom. I’m thinking about her kids too. Because they left with nothing as well.

This is what Tala’s Closet does. Survivors of abuse taking care of survivors. We make sure that the moment after she gets out, she doesn’t have to figure out the basics alone.

DATE CHANGE NOTICE! DUE TO WEATHER AND OTHER ISSUES, THE SALE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO JUNE 4, 5, AND 6TH.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, May 28 and Friday the 29 plus Saturday the 30, for the annual huge yard sale on 1514 Independence Drive in Newark! Many wonderful items to look through.

This year included in the sale will be all clothing for only $1.00 unless otherwise marked! Many kids' clothes are totally brand new. We are so excited to announce that all clothing sales will benefit Tala's Closet.

SO excited to add S. j. Rose Salon as a community resource for Tala's Closet in Grand Rapids 👏🏻

But let me tell you why this matters.

Beautiful things happen when women come together and share their experiences, values, and hearts for people.

Desiree and I actually met through Facebook Marketplace 😂 I bought something from her and somehow we just never walked back out of each other’s lives.

I learned she did hair — and trust me, she SLAYS 🔥

But beyond that, Desiree has continuously supported Tala’s Closet through donations, encouragement, and showing up for survivors. And now she’s taking that support one step further by offering free haircuts to our clients.

Because survival is expensive.
And rebuilding confidence matters too.

“See a need, fill a need.”

That’s exactly what our community is doing.

In addition to clothing and essentials, our growing list of community partners now includes:
• trusted mechanics
• a handyman
• a survivor/realtor
• community food pantry partners
• a restaurant providing gift cards
• a pet sanctuary helping foster pets
• domestic violence shelters
• and now, salon services 💇🏻‍♀️

We’re going to keep growing this list because survivors deserve more than just survival.

Grand Rapids… thank you for showing survivors that this community cares. I’m incredibly honored to build alongside people who lead with compassion!
