Last night 8/19/26, members from WSFD and Alarka Volunteer Fire Department conducted water shuttle and fire flow practice in preparation for our ISO inspection later in the year. A drafting site for water was set up on Lower Alarka Road and tankers shuttled water to the flow site at West Elementary school. This exercise is to simulate a building fire where large volumes of water are needed in an area without hydrants, large tankers haul the water from point A to point B then dump into the large drop tank (or multiple on a real scene) which is then pumped through an engine out hoses onto the “fire”. Real world practice like this is not only necessary for ISO reasons, almost every fire in just our district alone, whether it is a building, a large woods fire or vehicle fire requires tankers to shuttle water since there are no hydrants if it can not be put out with the water from the initial response. We are looking forward to more multi department training in the future, and hope to begin doing this more often with all of our automatic and mutual aid departments. Not only is this good practice for everyone involved but it is also a great chance to share different experience and expertise, as well as building a working relationship with each other.
