Hawthorn Heights Our shelter serves youth, ages 12-17, who are exhibiting at-risk behaviors or are in need of respite.

Our professionally trained staff provide basic needs and collaborate with community resources to successfully transition residents to a permanent home. Originally founded in 1976, an estimated 2,250 children have received shelter and support through the Hawthorn Heights residential program.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Reggie's Lovely Lavender Farmstand. 💜💙
Located just minutes from Hawthorn Heights, this farmstand is full of delicious sourdough bread, pastries, and more! Last week, they generously donated a whole load of goodies for our youth! Most of them had never even heard of sourdough English muffins and the chocolate sourdough blew all of our minds!

Please take the time to check out this AMAZING business and support a local who truly cares about their community! And don't forget to try... no really, you must try.. that chocolate Sourdough 🫠🤤🤎

The best conversations happen around the table. ❤️

From life advice to debates about aliens, there's never a dull moment at dinnertime! One thing you can always count on? A hot, home-cooked meal prepared daily by our staff, fresh produce from our garden when it's in season, nutritious fruits and vegetables, and plenty of care served with every plate.

Because sometimes the most important part of the day isn't just the meal- it's gathering around the table together.

🫧 Nobody is born knowing how to load a dishwasher..

Some of the youth who enter our program have had very little opportunity to develop independent living skills. Everyday tasks- like properly washing dishes- can feel overwhelming, embarrassing, or even trigger frustration when they've only ever heard, "You did it wrong. Do it again."

At Hawthorn Heights, we believe every skill is taught with patience, not shame.

Instead of criticism, our staff takes the time to explain the "why" behind each task. Whether it's checking for missed food spots, making sure dishes are completely dry before putting them away, or explaining how moisture can lead to mold, every lesson is an opportunity to build independent living skills.

Pictured below, Jason Beck (Unit Supervisor) is helping a resident learn the importance of properly washing and drying dishes. What could have become a stressful moment instead turned into a relaxed, bubbly lesson filled with encouragement. 🫧💙

The little things we often take for granted can become big milestones for the youth we serve.
