💗Ladies just know.💗

Let’s talk about something that isn’t always easy to talk about: period poverty.

Pads and tampons are necessities, not luxuries. Yet too many women and girls have to choose between menstrual products and other basic needs. No one should have to go without the hygiene products they need simply because they can’t afford them.

Restoration House is asking our community to help us stock up on BOTH pads AND tampons so we can help our neighbors manage their periods with dignity.

💐 Want to make your donation extra meaningful? Give in honor or memory of your mom, grandmother, daughter, sister, best friend, or another special woman in your life.

What better way to honor the women who have made a difference for us than by showing up for the women who need us?

It may feel uncomfortable to talk about, but it needs to be said: EVERYONE deserves access to basic hygiene. PERIOD.

Let's take care of each other, ladies. 💕

If you can spare a box, please consider donating to Restoration House. Every box makes a difference!

💛 Who We Are, What We Do, and What We Don’t Do

💙Restoration House WNC is a community resource center here in Bryson City, serving our neighbors across our local communities with food, basic necessities, recovery support, and connections to resources that help people build healthier, more stable lives.

💙We provide a food pantry, free meals, showers and laundry, harm-reduction supplies, peer support, help navigating resources, and assistance with the barriers that can keep people from moving forward.

💙We serve people and families facing hard times, whether they're struggling with food insecurity, housing, recovery, mental health, or simply making ends meet.

So, what DON’T we do?

🚫We don't bring in people from outside our service area. Our resources are intended to support our local communities, including Swain & Graham counties and the Qualla Boundary areas.

The food pantry is open to anyone in need.

🚫We don't enable drug use. Providing naloxone, test strips, and other harm-reduction supplies is about preventing deaths and keeping people alive. We believe people deserve the chance to recover, and they can't do that if they don't survive.

🚫We don't believe in turning people away just because they're struggling, but we do believe in boundaries, accountability, and using our resources responsibly.

Restoration House isn't about making it easier to stay stuck. It's about meeting people where they are, helping them overcome barriers, and giving them the tools and support to move forward.

We're proud to be part of this community, and we're grateful to everyone who helps us keep showing up for our neighbors. 💛

Big things are happening at Restoration House!

We’re renovating our shelter- you may remember hearing about Sweet Dreams when it was open years ago- with a NEW vision for something more than a temporary roof over someone’s head.

Our goal is to create a short-term transitional living program where residents can work, save toward their future, and partner with us to find safe, affordable housing of their own.

With a little support, a solid plan, and a whole lot of determination, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to build a stable, independent life.

We’re working toward a future where a temporary helping hand up can become the foundation for a home of their own. Stay tuned as we bring this vision to life! 💛

💛💙Happy Indigenous Peoples’ Day💙💛

Today, Restoration House WNC honors the Indigenous peoples who have cared for this land for generations, especially the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, whose ancestral homeland includes the land we call home here in Western North Carolina.

We recognize the history, culture, resilience, and continued presence of the Cherokee people and give thanks to those who have protected this land and its communities throughout generations.

💛May we move forward with respect, gratitude, and a commitment to honoring the people and history that make this place home💛

💙💛Mental illness and homelessness overlap, and we see it in our own communities. But one does not automatically mean the other.💛💙

Plenty of people without a place to live have never been diagnosed with anything. They lost a job, got buried in medical bills, watched rent climb past what they earn, or had to leave a home that wasn't safe.

And most people who live with depression, anxiety, or other mental health conditions have homes and jobs and families.

It might be your neighbor, someone at your church, or the person who fixed your truck last week.

The two can feed each other, though. It's hard to keep a job or a lease when you're struggling and can't get care. And it's hard to stay well when you don't have a safe place to sleep or a steady meal. One can make the other worse, but one doesn't cause the other every time.

If we assume everyone who is unhoused is mentally ill, we stop looking at the full problem, which includes a shortage of homes people can afford. If we assume mental illness leads to the street, we make people afraid to ask for help.

Neither assumption helps anyone.

What you can do:

💛Speak up when you hear people lumped together. Not everyone you see on the street is "unwell," and not everyone with a diagnosis is unstable.

💙Support affordable housing and programs that put people in a home first and work on the rest from there.

💛Support mental health care that working people can afford and actually reach.

💙Give time or money to the shelters, food pantries, and outreach groups in our area.

💛Treat people like people. A hello and a real "how are you doing?" costs nothing.

💛💙Two separate problems that often overlap, and both deserve real solutions. Look out for each other.💙💛
