Grizzly Wrestling Club families,

Please see the updated preseason open mat schedule in the attached flyer. These are no longer tentative times — this will be our preseason schedule.

We apologize for the late shifting of the schedule. We had to make a few adjustments to make sure the times worked with room availability and coaching coverage.

Grizzlies Group
September 7 – October 22
Monday: 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
Tuesday: 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

We understand that many wrestlers are currently involved in football, soccer, cross country, volleyball, or other fall sports. If your wrestler does not have the time right now, that is completely fine. Please feel free to join us after your fall season ends.

Grizzly Wrestling Club families,

Here is our tentative preseason and regular season schedule for the upcoming wrestling season. Please take a few minutes to review the different start dates for the Grizzlies and Cubs groups.

Before looking at the dates, we want to briefly explain the difference between the Cubs and Grizzlies groups so parents know which schedule applies to their wrestler.

The Cubs group is designed for younger, newer, or beginner wrestlers who are still learning the basics of the sport. This group will focus on fundamentals, body control, stance and motion, basic takedowns, defense, escapes, pinning basics, listening to coaches, mat awareness, sportsmanship, and building confidence in a positive learning environment.

The Grizzlies group is designed for wrestlers who are ready for a more structured practice setting. This group will continue building fundamentals while also focusing more on drilling, live wrestling situations, conditioning, match preparation, and tournament readiness.

Placement is not meant to label wrestlers. The goal is to put each wrestler in the best environment for their age, experience, confidence, and development. Coaches may evaluate wrestlers and make adjustments as needed throughout the season.

For parents who are new to wrestling, preseason “open mats” simply means optional practice time before the regular season begins. This gives wrestlers a chance to get in the room, move around, learn or review basic skills, drill, condition, and get comfortable before the full season starts. These sessions are not meant to replace regular season practices, and they are not required.

We also understand that many kids are involved in football, soccer, cross country, volleyball, or other fall activities. If your wrestler chooses not to start until after their fall sport ends, that is completely fine. Please feel free to join after your season is over.

If your wrestler is planning to join the Cubs group but would like some extra practice before the regular season, please reach out to the coaches or respond here. Someone will get back to you to discuss the best fit and help with evaluation.

Please note that times may be adjusted as needed as the season moves forward. Any changes will be communicated through our normal club communication channels.

Thank you Bryan Area Foundation for your support. We are so honored to receive this generous grant/donation. This will definitely help improve our program.

The Grizzly Youth Wrestling Club received a $22,500 grant from the Bryan Area Foundation to purchase equipment, including wall padding, two competition mats, a practice mat, wrestling dummies, and throwing mats. The Club has seen participation increase from 35 to 91 wrestlers, in addition to girl registrations, and these funds will provide a safer, more effective training environment for members in pre-kindergarten to sixth grade from Bryan and surrounding communities.

📣 GRIZZLY WRESTLING CLUB REGISTRATION IS OPEN! 📣
2026–2027 Youth Wrestling Season

It’s time to get ready for another season of Grizzly Wrestling!

Registration is officially open a little earlier than usual this year so families have plenty of time to get signed up and prepared before practices begin.

🐾 Who can join?

Grizzly Wrestling Club welcomes wrestlers in Pre-K through 6th grade from Bryan and surrounding communities.

Whether your child is brand new to wrestling or already has experience, we have a place for them. Wrestlers will be placed with either our Cubs or Grizzlies group based on experience, readiness, development, and safety.

Tournament participation is optional. Wrestlers can learn, practice, develop, and be part of the team without being required to compete.

🏈 ⚽ Playing a fall sport? No problem!

We strongly encourage kids to participate in multiple sports.

If your child is currently playing football, soccer, or another fall sport, they are absolutely welcome to join us when their season comes to an end. There is no expectation that families choose wrestling over another activity that is already underway.

Our goal is simply to give kids another opportunity to grow their abilities, improve overall athleticism, develop coordination and body control, and learn a great sport.

Finish your fall season, then come join us on the mat!

Our regular wrestling season will begin this fall and continue through March.

Cubs — Beginner & Developing Wrestlers
Focus: Fundamentals, body control, stance and motion, basic takedowns, escapes, scoring, confidence, and learning how to practice safely.

Grizzlies — Intermediate & Advanced Wrestlers
Focus: Advanced technique, chain wrestling, situational wrestling, live wrestling, conditioning, and tournament preparation.
