All Project Unity offices will be closed on Friday, June 19th, in observance of Juneteenth.

Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that enslaved people were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued. The day has become a time to reflect on freedom, resilience, and the ongoing pursuit of liberty and opportunity for all.

Our offices will resume normal business hours on the next business day.

Children had a wonderful time playing, making new friends, and interacting with their peers in a fun and welcoming environment. We were also excited to welcome a new family into our program through a new enrollment. Most importantly, we were able to connect with and provide support to a family in need. At Project Unity, we believe that the heart of our work is found in the relationships we build with the individuals and families we serve. Today, we are proud to recognize Maria Martinez for the exceptional care, professionalism, and dedication she brings to her role every day.

Recently, we received an unsolicited call from a client who wanted to share how much Maria's support has meant throughout their journey. The client expressed appreciation for Maria's clear communication, noting that she consistently keeps them informed and takes the time to thoroughly explain processes, services, and next steps. Most importantly, the client shared that Maria always follows through on her commitments and goes above and beyond to provide support when it is needed most.

Parenting doesn't come with a manual—but support is available!

If you have children ages 0-5, our Parenting Wisely program is designed to help you build practical parenting skills that strengthen your relationship with your child and create a positive home environment.

Learn valuable tools such as:

✅ Active listening skills
✅ Setting healthy limits and consequences
✅ Encouraging positive behavior
✅ Fostering strong social skills in young children

Whether you're a single parent, married, co-parenting, or raising children with the support of family members, this program offers guidance that can make a lasting difference for both you and your child.

One of the things families love most about Parenting Wisely is the welcoming environment we provide. While parents complete their lessons and grow their parenting skills, children have a safe and engaging space to play, explore, and interact with others. ☀️💦 HOPES PAT Family Spotlight: Making Memories at the Splash Pad! 💦☀️

At Project Unity, we believe some of the most important learning happens through play, connection, and time spent together as a family.

On June 9, our HOPES Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program partnered with our Family Resource Center team to host a Family Opportunities for Recreation event at the Central Park Splash Pad in College Station. What began as a simple morning of outdoor fun turned into a meaningful opportunity for families to strengthen relationships, build community, and create lasting memories.

Fourteen families joined us, bringing together 14 adults and 40 children for a morning filled with laughter, friendship, and active play. Parents connected with one another while children splashed, played, and enjoyed the freedom of summer fun in a safe and supportive environment.

Throughout the event, our Parent Educators shared resources and conversations focused on healthy child development, the importance of family bonding, outdoor safety, hydration, and sun protection. Families also received educational materials and sun-safety items to help continue these healthy habits at home.

One of the greatest outcomes of the day was seeing families build new connections and support networks with other parents in the community. Events like these help strengthen the protective factors that lead to stronger families, healthier children, and more resilient communities.

A special thank you to our HOPES PAT team, Family Resource Center staff, and everyone who helped make this event possible. Together, we're creating opportunities for families to thrive—one splash, one smile, and one shared moment at a time.

🌟 Success Story Spotlight 🌟

When this young mother first connected with our program, she was facing overwhelming challenges. Pregnant with her fourth child, she was navigating life with no income, unstable housing, food insecurity, limited transportation, and very little support to lean on during a critical season for her family.

Through determination, hard work, and the support of community resources, she began taking important steps toward stability. Together, we helped connect her with rental assistance, utility support, diapers, baby supplies, clothing, formula, and other essential resources to ease the burden during pregnancy and postpartum recovery.

In June 2024, she welcomed a healthy baby into the world and remained committed to attending prenatal, postpartum, and pediatric healthcare appointments to ensure both she and her child stayed healthy. As additional needs arose, she was connected to resources for WIC, SNAP benefits, vital records assistance, and document translation services, helping strengthen her family's foundation for the future.

What makes this story so powerful is not simply the resources provided, but the resilience demonstrated every step of the way. During a season marked by financial hardship, housing instability, and the challenges of raising a growing family, this mother continued moving forward, advocating for her children, and embracing opportunities for support.

Today, her family is in a more stable position with access to essential benefits, basic needs support, and a stronger network of community resources. Her journey is a reminder that when families are connected to the right support at the right time, hope grows, stability increases, and brighter futures become possible.

Success Story: Turning Challenges Into Opportunity

When a single mother of an 8-year-old child connected with Project Unity, she was facing significant challenges including unemployment, financial hardship, childcare responsibilities, and the demands of raising a child with special educational needs. Despite these obstacles, she remained determined to create a brighter future for her family.

Through Project Unity's collaborative FAYS and EJTEP programs, she received personalized support, career coaching, educational planning, FAFSA assistance, and guidance navigating higher education opportunities. An enhanced assessment process helped identify her strong potential for success, highlighting her resilience, motivation, and commitment to improving her family's future.

After exploring educational pathways, she enrolled at Maestro University, a flexible online institution designed to meet the needs of adult learners and parents. Even more exciting, she was awarded the prestigious Maestro Pro Scholarship, providing nearly $29,000 in tuition assistance, a laptop, AI tutoring support, and career placement resources.

Today, she is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Business and is on a clear pathway to earning her bachelor's degree. What once seemed out of reach is now becoming reality.

Her journey is a powerful reminder that with determination, the right support, and access to opportunity, dreams delayed do not have to be dreams denied. Today she is not just a participant—she is a college student, scholarship recipient, and future business professional.

🌟 Success Story Spotlight 🌟

When one local mother enrolled in Project Unity’s HOPES Community Pathways program, she was doing everything she could to provide a stable and loving home for her two young children while navigating the challenges of single parenthood.

Like many parents, she faced obstacles that included financial stress, transportation needs, balancing work and family responsibilities, and supporting a child with behavioral and educational challenges. Rather than allowing those barriers to define her future, she chose to take action.

Through Community Pathways, she participated in educational workshops focused on positive parenting, stress management, home safety, financial wellness, and understanding ADHD. As she gained new knowledge and skills, she grew more confident in advocating for her child’s needs, communicating with educators, and implementing positive strategies at home.

One of her proudest accomplishments came when she successfully prepared for and passed a housing inspection, creating a safer and more organized environment for her children. Along the way, she also maintained employment, secured reliable transportation, accessed community resources, and addressed important health needs that improved her ability to care for her family.

Today, she reports feeling more confident, capable, and prepared for the future. Most importantly, she has strengthened her ability to provide the stable, nurturing home her children deserve.

Her story is a powerful reminder that with determination, education, and the right support system, families can overcome challenges and build brighter futures.
