The Brazos Valley Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The Brazos Valley Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was chartered on August 9, 1986. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

is a private, non-profit organization whose purpose is to pro-vide assistance and support through established programs in local communities throughout the world. Founded on January 13, 1913 by twenty-two collegiate women at Howard University, the Sorority is currently a sisterhood of more than 200,000 predominately Black college educated women. This includes over 900 chapters located in the United

States, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Bermuda, the Bahamas, and the Republic of Korea. The major programs of the sorority are based upon the organization’s Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economic Development, Physical and Mental Health, Educational Development, Political Awareness and Involvement, and International Awareness and Involvement. Today, we proudly honor Sorors Linda Asberry and Sharon McElroy for 50 years of unwavering Sisterhood, Service, and dedication to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

For five decades, these distinguished women have embodied the very essence of Delta, leading with purpose, serving with compassion, and uplifting communities with grace. Their legacies of leadership and love continue to inspire generations throughout the Brazos Valley Area and beyond.

Thank you, Sorors, for exemplifying the true spirit of Delta through your wisdom, steadfast commitment, and your radiant example of what it means to be a Delta woman.

As our May Week has come to a close, we have one last HBCU recognition to share.

The Brazos Valley Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. proudly honors the legacy, culture, and influence of Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Today we celebrate Dr. Joycelyn Anderson, an Alcorn State University Class of 2000 graduate and our chapter’s Recording Secretary.

Founded in 1871 in Lorman, Mississippi, Alcorn State University is the nation’s first public, historically Black land‑grant university. Known for strong programs in agriculture and nursing, a rich heritage, accessible education, and a spirited Division I tradition, ASU continues to uplift students and communities.

HBCUs nurture leaders, thinkers, and changemakers who shape our world.

Today we honor North Carolina A&T State University Class of 1996 graduate, Dr. Crystal Spruill Carter, our chapter’s Vice President. As the largest HBCU in the nation, North Carolina A&T continues to lead the way as a top producer of African American graduates in STEM disciplines.

HBCUs continue to shape leaders, innovators, educators, and change makers across the world.
