Elevated fire danger is expected for portions of NE MO and west central IL on Saturday. Please leave any burning to the professionals!

02/27/2026

High fire danger is expected tomorrow. This is due to low relative humidity values, strong SW winds, well above average temps and severe drought.

Avoid all burning and please be mindful when disposing cigarette butts. High fire danger means fires can spread uncontrollably quickly.

02/27/2026

The combination of low humidity, gusty southwesterly winds, and dry vegetation will lead to Elevated to Critical Fire Danger today, meaning fires could easily get out of control. Therefore, outdoor burning is strongly discouraged today.

02/19/2026

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged on Thursday due to the potential for fires to easily get out of control in some areas. If you have plans to burn, please consider burning a different day.

Erratic fire conditions are expected today across central and northeast Missouri and west-central Illinois where dry conditions and gusty winds will occur. While areas further south and east will see similar conditions, dead logs, trees, and other burnable materials are still too wet from recent rains.

Help keep your community safe: leave burning to the professionals today and properly discard ci******es.

It’s National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week!

These individuals are the calm voices on the other end of 911 calls and other emergency communication lines.

They are often the first point of contact in an emergency; gathering critical information, coordinating response teams, and providing life-saving instructions, all while remaining calm under pressure.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is blessed to have a team of dedicated and compassionate team of Telecommunicators, who are the heroes behind the scenes that keep our office running.

Thank you for all that you do!
