Today, the Grand Lodge of Free & Accepted Masons of the State of New York pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We honor the courage of the first responders, the selflessness of ordinary citizens who answered an extraordinary call, and the enduring strength of the families and communities forever changed by that day.

May we never forget their sacrifice, and may we continue to build a more compassionate, united, and peaceful world in their memory.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

This ancient Stoic wisdom could easily have been written for Freemasons.

Many people think freedom means doing whatever they want.

Freemasonry teaches something different.

True freedom is found in self-mastery.

A man who cannot govern his temper...
is a slave to his anger.

A man who cannot control his desires...
is a slave to his appetites.

A man who allows pride, envy, fear, or ego to dictate his actions...
isn't truly free.

The working tools of Freemasonry aren't meant to shape stone alone.

They're meant to shape us.

Every lesson in the Lodge challenges us to become masters of our own thoughts, words, and actions.

To square our conduct.

To circumscribe our passions.

To seek wisdom before speaking.

To choose virtue when vice would be easier.

That journey isn't completed in a single degree.

It's the work of a lifetime.

The greatest victory a Mason will ever achieve isn't over another man.

It's over the man he was yesterday.

So ask yourself...

What part of your character still needs refining?

Because the strongest chains are often the ones no one else can see.

Keep building, Brothers.

Keep seeking Light.

⏳ "And the Master Mason said... When we understand that each day isn't one more day, but one less, we'll start giving more value to the things that truly matter."

Freemasonry has a way of changing how we think about time.

When we're young, life feels endless.

"I'll learn the ritual next year."

"I'll visit that Lodge someday."

"I'll call that Brother next week."

"I'll spend more time with my family when things slow down."

But one of the quiet lessons of becoming a Master Mason is realizing that time isn't accumulating...

It's being spent.

Every sunrise is a gift.

Every Lodge meeting is one you will never attend again.

Every handshake may be the last with a Brother you deeply respect.

Every conversation is an opportunity that may never come around again.

That realization isn't meant to make us fearful.

It's meant to make us intentional.

Say the kind words.

Take the degree team photo.

Invite the new Brother to sit with you.

Visit the older Brother who can't make it to Lodge anymore.

Call your mentor.

Thank the Brother who quietly keeps the lights on, brews the coffee, and never asks for recognition.

And when you leave your own home each morning...

Hug your spouse.

Tell your children you love them.

Call your parents while you still can.

Because the Working Tools teach us that life isn't measured only by its length...

It's measured by how well we used the time we were given.

The 24-Inch Gauge reminds us that every hour has value.

The Common Gavel reminds us not to waste those hours on bitterness, resentment, or pride.

The Great Work begins with the understanding that our most precious resource isn't money.

It isn't status.

It isn't titles.

It's time.

And unlike every other possession...

Once it's spent, we never get it back.

So don't wait for the perfect day.

This one counts.

No one can walk your path for you.

Every man faces hardship.

Some battles are financial.
Some are physical.
Some are spiritual.
Some are fought silently behind a smile that nobody else sees.

The truth is, there is no magic switch that makes life easy.

Progress usually begins when a man decides to take responsibility for the things he can control.

✔ Improve your health.
✔ Build your skills.
✔ Strengthen your faith or spiritual life.
✔ Pursue meaningful work.
✔ Become a little stronger than you were yesterday.

None of those guarantee an easy life.

But together, they help build a man who is better equipped to face whatever life puts in front of him.

Freemasonry has never promised to solve a man's problems.

It offers him working tools.

A Brotherhood.

Examples to follow.

Encouragement when he stumbles.

And Brothers who remind him that even though the work is his to do...

No Brother Walks Alone.

If you're struggling today, know that asking for help isn't weakness—it takes courage. Sometimes the strongest thing a man can do is let another Brother walk beside him for a while.

Today is the 180th Anniversary of the Charter of North Star Lodge #107!!! How exciting to think of all the History we have seen. If you see a member of North Star Lodge, Congratulate them for their part in such an amazing Milestone.

ACT LIKE SOMEONE A NON MEMBER WOULD WANT TO BE! Brethren, Freemasonry is not confined to the lodge room. The world is ever watching, and by our words, our actions, and our conduct, we either commend or condemn the Craft.

Wherever we go, whatever we do, we carry the Square and Compasses in the eyes of those who do not wear them. Let our lives be open books that speak of integrity, kindness, honesty, and honor.

BE HONEST in all your dealings.
Let truth be your guide, and trust your foundation.

BE KIND in all your interactions.
A kind word, a helping hand, and a listening ear may be the light someone needs.

BE FAIR and RESPECTFUL to all.
Make no distinctions of race, religion, or station. See in every man a brother and a child of God.

BE RELIABLE and TRUE to your obligations.
Do what you say you will do, and be steadfast in your commitments.

BE A BUILDER of good men and strong communities.
Support your family, uplift your neighbors, and serve your country.

Remember, Brethren, our Fraternity is judged by the conduct of its members. Let the world see in you the nobility of Masonry.

SO LIVE THAT WHEN PEOPLE THINK OF A MASON, THEY THINK OF SOMEONE THEY WOULD BE PROUD TO CALL A FRIEND.

Let us go forth this week determined to leave every place better than we found it and every person better than we met.

THE WORK IS OUT THERE. YOU CAN’T CHANGE A COMMUNITY FROM A GALA.

The world does not need more men in tuxedos. IT NEEDS MASONS IN THE STREETS. Not in comfort, but in the chaos. Not in the banquet hall, but in the places that hurt.

GO WHERE IT’S NEEDED MOST. THE STREETS | THE TRENCHES | THE GHETTOS
WHERE HOPES ARE LOW AND NEEDS ARE HIGH.

Go where others won’t. See what others ignore. Be the Square of fairness. Be the Level of hope. Be the Plumb of truth. Be the Trowel of brotherly love.

DON’T BUILD TEMPLES TO IMPRESS. BUILD LIVES TO BLESS.
Not for recognition. Not for reward.
But because it is right. Because it is real.
Because that is what a Mason does.

LEAVE THE TITLES AT THE DOOR.
TAKE THE TOOLS TO THE PEOPLE.
Listen more than you speak. Serve more than you post. Lift more than you lead.

BE THE CHANGE. BE THE EXAMPLE.
BE THE BROTHER THE WORLD NEEDS.
