Hey Everyone, I hope this finds you with a full tank of health and enjoying the new year. Today I find myself overjoyed and full of gratitude. After 4 years of Homelessness, Couch Surfing, Living off the Land and Everything in between, I am overjoyed to say I will be shifting from my beautiful, tented site in the woods, to a bedroom with four walls and an ensuite bathroom. My hope in writing this draws some attention to a few things. One, that my well cared for site will be available to a person or person's currently unhoused. I have a gently used extra two person tent for anyone needing it too or you can provide your own. Please note that there are rules to follow of being good stewards of the space but none the less, part of my mission is to help stabilize those who are newly experiencing homelessness. This is a great opportunity located in Brunswick, off the Bath Rd. Unfortunately the site is well off the beaten trail, so probably not for someone with a physical disability. Shoveling is involved. During the weekdays you have access to a heated environment, the ability for warm showers, bathroom privileges, heating in a microwave and even access to multiple social activities among peers. It has served me in more ways than I can express and would love to see the mission continued. In the Spring, there are still plenty of abandoned encampments that need to be cleaned up, but that is a discussion for another time. I urge anyone to please PM us and we will do our best to get back to you with every sense of urgency. The site also comes equipped with a single cot and mattress as well as a propane cooking stove. There is a storage tent or guest tent if you will as well as a wood tent for campfires... The land is public but safe as long as the site is utilized with care and kept up. Being respectful is among high importance and I will expect such for any future guest. I can also gift a sleeping bag and tote for food. A shovel is provided for pathway clearing.

As I shift into my new living quarters I am asking for help in the sense of gift cards or monetary donations to assist in acquiring new bedding and linens. I seek Twin sized bedding and would like the opportunity to fund new Sheets, comforter and linens. I am seeking a targeted amount of around $200 for my items as I take this next step in my journey of homelessness.

Our next goal is to start the process of legitimizing Homeless & ill under the Non-Profit Status and seeking grant funding and approval for two men sober housing situations one in Bath and one in Brunswick. Oddly, there are none. The effort is enormous, but we have to start somewhere. The time and need is certainly now. If anyone is interesting in partnering with us or helping us facilitate these goals, we want to talk to you.

I really appreciate everyone for taking the time to listen, read and reach out. Warm wishes and prayers are always encouraged and appreciated.

Best to Everyone, Botanically Yours

John

So I hate to ask during the holiday but it would be absolutely amazing if we could get 4 of the largest panels of insulation boards possible donated or even the funds into the Homeless & ill account.. at Lowe’s they seem to run around $11. Per panel… I am trying to make insulation panels for a canvas tent cover we are creating to see if a simple tent cover would help retain heat in a tent for the winter. While all this sounds like trial and error, I think it would really make a difference with a buddy heater. Right now tarps don’t seem to be holding any hot air and the propane goes so quickly. If all goes the way I hope it goes, I want to start taking recycled canvas fabric and sew tent covers for those living in tents with pockets to insert insulation board panels and for some dents inserting wall insulation… I have put insulation board down under my tents but I think walls would help and hold heat better… understandably if this is out of reach I totally understand. Just trying technical avenues that are rather cheaper than buy a bigger tent and I think tent covers could help a lot of us out side in a tent on nights like tonight.. brrr it’s cold. If I still drank I would suggest a couple shots of whiskey so for all of those of you who do, please have a couple for me… cheers mates

As the season settles and a new year is ahead. I would like to take the time to say how appreciative I am of the support, the donated items, the encampment clean up help, the kind wishes and the spirit of generosity given. We were able to clean up 26 encampments in the short time we were founded. I am humbled and grateful. Thank you Everyone. We will take a winter sabbatical on the clean ups while the Snow renews the lands. The months ahead will be to concentrate on raising funds, forage for supplies, find new innovative ways to create respectful campsites and raise awareness. Homelessness does not need to stay idol in a negative thought but can evolve into a functional way of transition. I invite our community to rally around new thoughts on transitional housing as we face this crisis. We wish you a warm and cozy Holiday. The Homeless & ill Team
