🎓 HOMELESS TO COLLEGE! 🎓

What an incredible joy it has been to watch Isaiah "Sunzo" grow and achieve his goals over the past four months.

We first met Isaiah in February. During the cold winter months, he was sleeping outside near his job on St. Simons Island so he could make it to work on time each day. One afternoon, a stranger noticed him sitting after work reading his Bible and struck up a conversation. After hearing Isaiah's story, that stranger reached out to Saved By Grace to see how we could help.

Soon after entering our program, Isaiah began working at Beachview Event Rentals and Design and diligently started saving money. He also began attending church at Greater Works Ministries, where he gave his life to Christ.

As he continued his journey, Isaiah participated in financial literacy classes provided by STAR of Coastal Georgia, Inc. and opened his first checking account, another important step toward independence and stability.

One evening, Isaiah shared with our house manager, Robert, his dream of returning to school. Growing up in difficult circumstances, education had never been a positive experience for him. Robert encouraged him to pursue that dream and begin the application process.

With the support of CJ and Cathy, dedicated Saved By Grace volunteers, Isaiah moved into his college dorm last night.

Today, a young man who once slept outside to keep a job is beginning his college journey. His goal is to earn a four-year degree in business and one day open a Muay Thai gym where he can mentor and support underprivileged youth through martial arts.

Stories like Isaiah's are possible because of faithful supporters who believe that lives can be transformed when people are given a hand up instead of a handout.

Thank you for helping us restore hope, create opportunity, and change lives, one person at a time.

Isaiah's needs for the dorm:
-small microwave
-food (ravioli, ramen, milk, sandwich stuff, sprite, anything for microwave)
-cleaning supplies (lysol wipes, toilet paper, air fresheners, laundry soap, toilet cleaner, etc)
-hangers
-bowls / plate for microwave, plastic cutlery

Items can be dropped off at our office at 5140 Blythe Island Hwy. We are open M-F 9-5 (closed noon-1 for lunch)

Find a Friend Friday ...... something I did several years ago before I went to my day job on Jekyll. I stopped at McDonald's and got a coffee along with a sausage biscuit and thought I would go in search of a new friend. For several weeks I had seen a car backed into a parking lot of a now abandoned restaurant. I could tell that someone was living in the vehicle as it was stacked to the roof of personal belongings. With the coffee and the biscuit, I pulled into the parking lot next to the vehicle. There sat a gentleman who had been sleeping in the vehicle. I asked if he wanted breakfast and he politely declined, so I moved on. I knew I could always find people on the highway 341 area, so I ventured out to that part of town. As I pulled into the parking lot of a local motel, I could see a lot of law enforcement activity. After seeing someone that I knew, I rolled down the window and asked what was going on. I was told that the motel was being shut down. I saw people in handcuffs. I saw people packing up their cars, and I saw people walking around with all of their bags wondering where they were going to go next. While some may scoff at the people that live in these motels, they're not all the same. Some live there because it's all that they can ever afford, some are working and some are not. There are single parents with children living in these motels as well. For some, this is home. I'm sure that a lot of them went to bed last night not thinking that today, they would wake up with no home, no room, no place to go.

This song played:
You broke through a thousand fences
Been rescued from a thousand ditches
You still swear you don't fit in
So you kick and scream, and you're gone again
Wandering off into the devil's wind

But how's it going out there?
Acting like you ain't scared
How's that heart of stone?
Ain't so hard when you're alone
Crying tears you hope nobody sees
Guess the good news is He'll never leave you be
Jesus loves you black sheep

You hate everything about you
You think we're better off without you
You wear your pain out
on your sleeve
And you paint it on in rebel ink
But the alcohol and pills ain't fixed a thing

So how's it going out there?
Acting like you ain't scared
How's that heart of stone?
It ain't so hard when you're alone
Crying tears you hope nobody sees
Guess the good news is He'll never leave you be
Jesus loves you black sheep

A couple of months ago, I came across a facebook post where someone was seeking a job, just trying to get by. They had moved here from another state and didn't have proper identification. Numerous comments were made "Why did you move here with no job", "why do you not have identification", etc.
I eventually made a comment that we could help with identification. "S" reached out for she and "P". Numerous things had to happen to get the identification process started. Birth certificates had to be obtained, and because neither had their actual ID, only a photo of it on their phone, driving records had to be obtained from another state and they needed mail with current address on it.

As of this week, both now have a Georgia state ID, and both are completing on-boarding paperwork for new jobs!!

It's easy to sit behind a keyboard and judge people. Everyone has a story - may not be a story you wanna hear, but everyone deserves respect and kindness!

Happy one year anniversary to this girl!! We met in November of 2024 when she asked for assistance in getting her ID! Struggling to get her life back on track, we were able to help her find employment in 2025! One year later, she is still there! Still rockin' it! Still showing up everyday - even when days are hard!!

We are super proud of you "S"!!

A bathroom, private and clean - something most of us take for granted. Today, "C" & "W" (husband and wife) are now able to shower whenever they want!

A few weeks ago, I met them in an area that they were sleeping on concrete. They had reached out previously needing assistance to get identification switched over from another state. I went and met with them and listened to a story filled with trauma, homelessness, and addiction.

With the assistance of Safe Harbor Center, Inc., Gateway Community Service Board and First Presbyterian Church of Brunswick Georgia they are now in their own place! I visited them yesterday and this is the cutest place! They have been given so many things! They are making it a home. We talked about how a few weeks ago, we didn't see this on the horizon! "C" is completing her onboarding for employment today. We are waiting on "W"'s birth certificate from another state. They are receiving the help they need, meanwhile volunteering their time to help others that are on the street.

I mentioned to "C" yesterday when I was taking her to the DMV to get her ID, that I wanted to post their story (promised not to mention their names) and wanted to reach out to the community for assistance in providing food items. They have a stove, full size refrigerator/freezer and microwave (I think a crock pot is making it's way to them soon).

If you'd like to donate, food items can be delivered to our office at 5140 Blythe Island Hwy Monday through Friday 9:00am-5:00pm (closed for lunch 12-1). Any funds raised on this post will go towards purchasing food for this couple.

Again, it takes a village and we are so thankful for our village partners that make these outcomes possible!

This guy loves Jesus and it’s so obvious! Some Sundays at Blythe Island Baptist Church you will see him playing guitar, some Sundays he may be on the drums. Either way, his heart loves to serve with his gift of music.

When he’s at the house you most likely will find him leading a jam session & taking requests with the other residents.

We are so proud of you, Will! Keep serving and living your faith out loud!!!
