Our Story
MCOA is a broad, multidisciplinary network of now over 100 organizations, businesses and older community members. We draw upon collective wisdom, experience and hard data to influence policy, educate stakeholders and advance initiatives that move us toward a vision of Maine where we can live healthy, engaged and secure lives in our homes and communities with choices and opportunities.
We promote public policy that:
-Supports aging-friendly communities that offer meaningful options to older adults for living, working, and aging well;
-Ensures adequate funding and system resources are dedicated to the full spectrum of supports and services older adults need as they age;
-Expands supports for informal caregivers of older adults;
-Enhances opportunity for older adults to be engaged in their communities;
-Increases leadership opportunities for older adults to articulate their needs and desires, and helps them be their own advocates;
-Effectively anticipates the needs of older adults through the aging process;
and Ensures independence, dignity, personal choice, and quality of life for all older adults.
