Every day after school, 8-year-old Ethan came home with an empty lunch bag. His mother, Caroline, couldn't figure out why. Then, she checked their security camera.
Just outside their gate, two skinny stray dogs were waiting for him.
Ethan would kneel on the sidewalk, open his bag, and give them everything he had. He didn't keep a single bite for himself. Then he'd pet their heads, hug them close, and whisper something to them.
When his mother finally asked him why he did it, his answer was simple:
"They don’t have a mom to pack them food. But I do."
Children don't see "strays" or "outsiders." They don't try to decide if someone deserves kindness. They just see hunger—and they feed it. They see loneliness—and they give a hug.
Sometimes it takes a child to remind us: love isn't supposed to be saved up. It is meant to be given.
