I know all towns have unsung heroes and I'd like to mention one group today. Our American Legion. Once again this group put out flags on poles throughout both towns, veterans flags in the cemeteries, and 250th birthday flags. Thank you members of the legion and auxiliary.

The Onawa Trestle in Maine is one of the most striking railroad sights tucked away in the deep woods near Onawa. This massive bridge crosses Ship Pond Stream and has long been known as both the tallest and longest railroad trestle in the state, stretching about 1,230 feet from end to end and standing roughly 130 feet above the stream below. The original crossing dates back to the late 1800s, when this remote rail route was part of the Canadian Pacific system through Maine, and the trestle later became such an important piece of railroad infrastructure that soldiers from the segregated 366th Infantry Regiment were stationed at nearby Morkill to guard it during World War II. Today, the area around it is reached mostly by ATV and UTV trails, with wild forest scenery, Borestone Mountain close by, and Lake Onawa visible in the distance. As impressive as the bridge is, it is still part of an active rail line and is posted with no-trespassing signs, so the safest and smartest way to enjoy it is from nearby trails, the woods, or legal viewing spots rather than stepping onto the trestle itself.
