Great info on how the Office of Seafood will benefit shrimpers. We need passage of the Farm Bill in the Senate with these vital amendments codifying the Office of Seafood at the USDA permanently. 🦐

Having a reliable Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP) is vital for protecting U.S. citizens from harmful foods entering the country virtually unchecked. Foreign seafood imports account for over 90% of seafood consumption. We should do all we can to hold accountable those responsible for monitoring the SIMP to ensure our food is safe.🦐

It was great to visit with Dr. Lindsay Kennedy and her group of students from the Texas Tech MILE program who toured the Rio Grande Valley to learn firsthand about the issues affecting the state's agricultural industry. No doubt, a visit to the harvesters of the sea is merited.

We discussed the many challenges facing the industry. Thank you to Leonard and all the crew at Zimco Marine who showed them up close the workings of a shrimp boat!

This is great news for shrimpers!! Now onward to the Senate!

This is great news for shrimpers!! Now onward to the Senate!

The Farm Bill passed the House with three of my amendments attached.

The first amendment establishes the USDA Office of Seafood in federal law for the first time, giving South Carolina's shrimpers and fishermen a permanent home within the department.

The second opens USDA loan programs to commercial fishing and seafood operations, putting the farmers of the sea on equal footing with the farmers of the soil.

The third is Violet's Law, which requires every federal agency to release retired research animals into homes.

South Carolina's coast has a seat at the table. We're just getting started.

Well said SSA!! With millions being collected in tariffs and countervailing duties, a portion should be allocated to shrimpers who are economically injured by the overwhelming amount of foreign farm-raised shrimp being imported into our country.

Also, those collected revenues should be directed to increasing the amount of inspections of imported farm-raised shrimp being imported. More than the current amount of one percent of shrimp should be inspected!

🚨 NEWS ALERT: As shrimp season begins, American shrimpers can’t afford to leave the dock—while foreign competitors receive millions in refunds.
Our coastal communities deserve better.

This is great legislation that we need to support the U.S. fishing commercial fishing industry. Reach out to your legislators to ask for their support!

The bill would also incorporate domestic seafood requirements into child nutrition programs.
