Today, Brownsville residents and organizations will pack the November 4 City of Brownsville Commission Meeting to voice their opposition to AI Data centers and demand a full 180-day moratorium on data centers. The city will host a public hearing on data centers during today’s meeting at 4:00 PM at City Hall, 1001 E Elizabeth St., Brownsville, TX.

Since July, Brownsville residents have packed many Brownsville City Commission meetings to oppose data centers because they will use massive amounts of water, pollute the air, and cause horrifying noise pollution. The City’s data center public hearing on Nov. 4 will also discuss the Environmental Task Force, which will draft data-center ordinances. Residents will make it clear they want Carolyn Wood, a SpaceX employee, removed from the task force because the Elon Musk corporation is connected to data center development. They will also demand the City commit to passing a full 180-day moratorium.

On Oct. 19, the Tribune requested the draft agenda that listed the discussion after Texas Monthly reported the commissioners were expected to discuss the sale of 1,300 acres of land, purportedly to SpaceX, behind closed doors.

However, Texas Parks and Wildlife, a state agency tasked with managing and conserving natural areas for future generations, on Friday asked the Attorney General’s office to block the release of the draft agenda.

The Texas Tribune reviewed a copy of a draft Texas Parks and Wildlife agenda that included discussion about ceding control of 1,300 acres in Cameron County, home to Boca Chica Beach and SpaceX’s launch site.

Thank you to all who joined the community dinner honoring Dia de los Mu***os and our lost loved ones whose memories live on through our families, traditions, and stories shared.

Together we honored the lives taken by harmful policies and practices across many social justice issues: violent immigration enforcement, environmental injustice, labor injustice, reproductive injustice, and all other threats to human rights and our communities.

Good news: Valeria Caballero, one of our members from the South Texas Environmental Justice Network, was appointed to this task force. Bad news: Carolyn Wood, a SpaceX employee, is also on the task force and should be kicked off.

There will be a public hearing in which you can make up to a 3 minute public comment sharing your opposition to data centers and how you would like to see the city and this task force develop strong ordinances to stop them from coming to our region.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission has been discussing the sale of Boca Chica State Park to SpaceX. We must tell the Commission: Boca Chica Beach is meant for the people, not for billionaires to blow up rockets.

We learned just yesterday that the Texas Parks and Wildlife is considering selling Boca chica beach state Park to SpaceX and Elon Musk, and we say NO! Boca chica is meant for the people, not for a billionaire and rocket explosions.
