Last night I attended a National Day of Racial Healing at First Baptist Church - Broad in Memphis, TN hosted by the Tennessee State Conference and the Memphis Branch NAACP. The event had a superb panel who all represented all aspects of our communities and the folks who live and operate in those spaces. The discussion was timely, informed, and definitely needed in our communities, our state, and across our nation.

Our MLK Day of Service was a very good event sharing information and learning. We want to thank Director of Child and Family Services, Tipton County, Sonja Gwin, the Haywood County Health Department, the Haywood County Extension Office, and Save the Children for making our event so much better. We also want to extend a special thank you to the Tipton County Chapter of Omega Psi Phi for their support and engagement with our day of service. We learned about HIV / AIDS, available resources, conducted testing and exchanged information to take back to our communities, churches, families and friends.

The Haywood County Branch NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet was an absolute success thanks to the community, our sponsors and members. The evening was highlighted by the very relevant and timely message for Dr. Keith Norman speaking on our theme "The Fierce Urgency of Now". It was an honor to present the Distinguished Service Award to Judge Lyle Reid and the Education Impact Award to Ms. Nicole Johnson. We are better together and we must strive to move forward together.

This past weekend, the Haywood County Branch attended the TN State Conference Convention in Cookeville, TN. Our youth council was awarded Youth Council of the Year and President Mann received the Charles L. White Leadership Award. The branch continues to work hard to address critical issues in our community and develop our next generation of leaders.
