Why a Farmers foundation in Fayette County PA?
Farmers and producers in rural communities often face challenges regarding market and price fluctuations, changing weather patterns, added transport costs, informed consumers, and access to centers of innovation. With time commitments and increasing costs to attend events, current farmers and producers can find themselves not informed about new technologies and strategies that could assist them to produce more with less input, or online direct-to-consumer marketing methodologies and, further knowledge of ways to diversify their income streams, combined with a growing distance between consumers and producers.
To directly address these needs, The Farmers Foundation of Fayette County, PA was created to financially assist present and future agriculturalists. The foundation will provide support to those who engage in: individual, industry specific, continuing agricultural education; local coordinated classes that bring expert educators to the area; support for young adults engaging in agricultural and environmental science related programs; and, youth educational offerings that expose school-aged children to agriculture. Through these concrete methods, we can build home-grown expertise and ensure Fayette County remains competitive in a complex and evolving market.
