The site where Annova LNG wants to build its 650-acre export terminal is a beautiful example of a natural loma--a dune of windblown clay. The wildlife habitat is so rich that until 2013, the tract was leased by U.S. Fish and Wildlife as part of the wildlife corridor and called the Loma Ecological Preserve. Fish and Wildlife was hoping to acquire it one day, as it provides a link between the Lower Rio Grande Valley Refuge Tracts by the river and the Bahia Grande.
